The Licensed Vocational Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) coordinates and delivers high quality, patient-centered care by performing a variety of delegated basic patient care services. In collaboration with the RN and other members of the care team, the LVN/LPN provides individualized, comprehensive, and compassionate care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department, and consistent with the scope and standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Your responsibilities will include: Providing focused nursing care for patients with complex needs by administering medications, managing lines or drains, and assisting with interventions like cardiac monitoring or respiratory support Closely observing patients for subtle changes in status including shifts in heart rhythm, oxygen levels, or neurological signs and escalating concerns quickly to support early intervention Documenting timely, accurate updates that help the care team coordinate effectively in a high-acuity environment Helping patients and families understand complex conditions and recovery steps with clarity and comfort Working closely with RNs, providers, and specialists to stabilize patients and guide them through the transition from intensive care toward recovery Major responsibilities include: Obtaining and recording initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care Providing direct, evidence-based nursing care of assigned patients as directed by the physician or RN Assisting with procedures, monitoring, or other functions as directed Performing lab and procedural tests within the LVN/LPN scope of practice, after demonstrating competency Inserting and maintaining IVs, after meeting training requirements and demonstrating competency Administering prescribed medications to patients in accordance with hospital policies and practice guidelines Identifying potential nursing problems/changes in patient status, informing appropriate team members Escalating situations requiring care beyond the scope or practice of an LVN/LPN Reinforcing education for patient and family based on the individual needs of the customer Documenting the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner Demonstrating an understanding of and adherence to the principles of patient privacy and security of protected health information Providing for the smooth processing of patients into and out of the department Providing accurate and pertinent patient information reports to the RN or CNC and to the oncoming shift to ensure continuity of care Serving as a resource to department staff, students, volunteers and other departments, and contributing to the teamwork essential to ensuring quality patient care Providing and ensuring patient safety at all times Facilitating the management of the day's scheduled cases Demonstrating caring and empathy in all interactions and advocating for patient-and family-centered approach in all decisions and actions Demonstrating excellent communication skills, including active listening Participating as an engaged, active member of the health care team and positively promoting the rest of the team to patients/families/caregivers and other colleagues Participating in professional practice activities and advocating for shared governance functions Seeking opportunities to impact the growth of the organization by promoting excellence in patient experience and providing high quality care to the patients served Encouraging physician engagement by nurturing a positive, professional work environment Functioning as a good steward of financial resources by effectively managing supplies, equipment, length of stay, and throughput Assuming personal accountability for work time Performing other duties as assigned Practicing and adhering to the "Code of Conduct" and "Mission and Value Statement" What qualifications you will need: Basic Life Support (BLS) required (LPN/LVN) Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse required 1+ years applicable experience preferred Terre Haute Regional Hospital has provided quality healthcare services since 1882.
