Skilled Craftsman Sewer Division

Performs regular and preventative maintenance and repairs on Division mechanical equipment, facilities, and grounds. Assist senior maintenance staff in more complex work and assist in Plant operation as required. Performs grounds and building maintenance. Assigned to work independently to perform intermediate level mechanical repairs. Tasks include, but are not limited to; replacement of drive belts, motor/shaft couplings, pillow block bearings, roof and building repairs, small engines and small equipment repairs, disassemble/reassemble mechanical equipment for repair or component replacement. Performs carpentry, masonry and plumbing (cemented PVC, soldered copper, compression and barbed hose/tubing, threaded and flanged pipe work), replaces valves, couplings and fittings, tubing, hoses and associated fittings. Make routine inspection and adjustments to equipment, adjust and replace pump packing, raise pumps out of volutes to clear impellors. Maintains record of all equipment repairs and track PM frequencies in written reports and computer format. May be assigned work as a Plant Operator during the day shift or temporarily scheduled to work night or weekend shifts as an Operator as part of the employees regular work schedule on a temporary basis. May be assigned to work on Road Crew Operations; may be required to work overtime. Proficient in the use of all hand and power tools. Working knowledge of computers and related software, spreadsheets, word processing and database software. Able to read/interpret plans, drawings and sketches, and read technical manuals. Ability to work independently and apply standard mechanical and plumbing trade practices to assigned work. Make arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals and percentages, in relation to sewage flow, volumes and detention times, as required to take and pass the Operator licensing exam. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. High School graduate/GED with emphasis on mechanical sciences as obtained from Vocational or Technical school. Requires high degree of mechanical aptitude, and minimum of 3 years experience in mechanical maintenance. Must obtain and maintain a Class 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators License within 18 months of hire date. Apprenticeship or training in a relevant skilled trade desirable along with trade certification. Requires valid CT Driver License. Performs manual work out-of-doors under variable weather conditions that includes tasks such as climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and occasional heavy lifting. Significant manual dexterity and visual and auditory acuity. Exposure to fumes, odors, dust toxic conditions with definite risk of bodily injury. Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Defined Benefit Pension Plan, generous time off and med/dental/life insurance package. SALARY: $27.13/hr. ($28.46 @ 6 mths (anniversary), $30.19 @ 1 yr (anniversary).
