Electric Troubleshooter Or Line Mechanic

The City of Azusa is looking for the best, most qualified candidate to work in the capacity of Electric Troubleshooter OR Line Mechanic, depending on qualifications. Salary and benefit information is as follows: $54.46 - $66.20 hourly, $9,440.12 - $11,474.52 monthly, $113,281.44 - $137,694.24 annually. Under supervision, performs a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction and maintenance of underground and overhead electrical distribution systems; responds to electrical system emergencies and customer trouble calls as necessary to maintain or restore electric utilities services; performs related duties as required. Under limited supervision, the Line Mechanic is the skilled journey-level class responsible for a wide range of electrical installations and maintenance work, troubleshooting electrical system problems and underground cable work. Line Mechanics may be assigned standby duty by the Assistant General Manager

Electric Operations or designee. Receives direction from the Electric Crew Supervisor or designee. Supervision is not exercised by these classifications. Essential functions include: responding to emergency calls for restoration of interrupted electric service; installing and maintaining the overhead electrical distribution system; participating, installing and maintaining underground electrical distribution system; conducting the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical substation equipment; installing single and polyphase meter system; patrolling overhead power lines to detect potential problem areas; de-energizing and clearing fallen live electric wires from the ground; disconnecting and reconnecting electric service; participating and assisting in the training of apprentices and other assigned personnel; and performing related duties as required. Qualifications include: HS/GED or equivalent education; journey level status as a line mechanic; possession of and ability to maintain a valid Class A California Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record; knowledge of materials, methods, and equipment used in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground distribution systems; ability to work with energized lines, climb poles, follow instructions, observe safety precautions, perform heavy manual tasks, lift and move materials, care for tools, perform electrical installation and repair work, communicate effectively, and understand and follow verbal and written directions. Environmental conditions include working at assigned locations throughout the City of Azusa, exposure to heights, dangerous tools, high voltage, extreme weather conditions, and hazardous chemicals; working extended hours including evenings and weekends; sufficient physical ability and mobility; climbing poles safely, reaching, bending, and lifting up to 100 pounds; removing manhole covers weighing up to 800 pounds using mechanical tools; working at heights up to 75 feet and in confined spaces; and working in close proximity to energized lines and in underground electrical vaults.
