Associate Planner

The City of Tigard's Community Development Department is seeking an Associate Planner to join their team. This is an important mid-level planning position that is responsible for various aspects of Community Development's work program. This position offers career development opportunities and a wide variety of work. The Associate Planner position may vary in its focus but will typically either manage complex land use applications or long-range projects such as development code updates. The ideal candidate will have excellent project management skills and be able to do independent work with supervisor direction and support. Examples of duties include: Manage code amendment projects, including researching background materials, building and engaging with stakeholder constituencies, drafting and editing clearly written code for review by internal review team. Present clear and concise information to elected and appointed bodies to inform policy and decision-making processes. Coordinate with internal stakeholders from different departments in a productive manner that builds trust and buy-in for Community Development initiatives. Collaborate as a member of the Community Development team to achieve departmental and city priorities related to equity, carbon responsibility, housing opportunity, and economic mobility. Process complex land use decisions, including coordination and communication with developers and engineers, writing defensible findings, meeting mandated deadlines, and resolving conflicts. Provide excellent customer service as a planner on duty and provide support to counter staff in responding to community and customer questions and requests. Minimum qualifications include: Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in urban planning, community development, business or public administration, or a related field; AND Three (3) years of responsible public agency planning experience. Supplemental information includes: Union Representation: not applicable for this position Schedule: The expected work schedule is Monday-Thursday (General working hours are between 7:00 a.m-6:00 p.m. with some evening and weekend events.
