The Coral Springs Police Department has a diverse workforce, with an authorized strength of 230 police officers and over 99 civilian members, who are dedicated to providing the highest level of professional service to our citizens, businesses, and the visitors we serve. By incorporating a number of problem-solving initiatives throughout the community, such as the Burglary Enforcement And Reduction Unit, the Make a Call Make a Difference community crime campaign and having a School Resource Officer in every public school, our staff is committed to the City of Coral Springs' mission statement: to be the premier city in which to live, work, and raise a family. $7,000 retention bonus $3,000 payable in December and $4,000 payable in June* Under the direction of a Police Sergeant, the School Resource Law Enforcement Officer will be tasked with the general safety and security of their assigned school. The School Resource Law Enforcement Officer will be partnered with a full-time School Resource Officer from a neighboring school to assist in the execution of their duties. The School Resource Officer holds the same level of authority and responsibility imparted upon full-time Law Enforcement Officers. The School Resource Law Enforcement Officer's authority is not limited to the confines of their assigned school. As such, they are expected to take action when circumstances dictate or when called upon to do so by a Commanding Officer of the Department. To be considered for hire, the candidate must have previous full-time certified law enforcement experience. Should candidate selected for hire not currently hold Florida State Law Enforcement certification, certification must be successfully attained within first year of employment to remain employed. Candidate will be reimbursed for fees/costs associated with required comparative compliance course and state certification. Additional Requirements: Must have separated or retired from all prior law enforcement agencies in good standing. Must have successfully completed the modified or full agility course at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety within the preceding 6-months of their application date. Must have successfully completed the swim test at the Broward College Institute of Public Safety (does not expire). Salary: $38.88 per hour plus $7,000 retention bonus: $3,000 payable in December and $4,000 payable in June* and awarded for full school year. This position also receives 16 wellbeing hours which are non-accruing and not payable at separation. All equipment necessary in the execution of the S.R. Law Enforcement Officer's duties will be provided by the Department. A take-home vehicle will be provided for a nominal monthly fee to offset fuel cost. The vehicle is only to be used during the school-year, exclusively for traveling to and from work and for any other official business. There are NO BENEFITS assigned to the position of S.R. Law Enforcement Officer (i.e. health insurance, paid time off, holiday pay, etc.). The position of S.R. Officer is not typically eligible for overtime pay. In the event of a significant state of emergency or other similar circumstance, overtime may be issued at the direction of the Chief of Police or his designee. Any necessary court appearance required of the S.R Law Enforcement Officer will occur during their normal working hours. No overtime or supplemental pay will be offered for mandatory court appearances. S.R Law Enforcement Officers will receive up to 40 hours annually of paid training. Training will typically occur over school holidays, teacher workdays or during summer break. The S.R Law Enforcement Officer will receive quarterly reviews for their first year of employment. Reviews thereafter will be issued on a bi-annual basis. The position of S.R Law Enforcement Officer is an "at-will" position. As such, your employment may be discontinued at any time. Up to 1488 hours plus 40 hours of training annually. The work schedule will run concurrent to the school in which the School Resource Law Enforcement Officer is assigned. This may include hours for activities that occur outside of the school's standard school schedule/hours. The following includes all steps required to process for the position.
