Perform activities associated with the operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant including monitoring flow, collecting samples, operating equipment, and recording data. Typical Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Monitor operation of wastewater treatment plant including observation of operation, reading meters, and review of plant processes. 2.2 Perform activities necessary to control plant process including collection of samples, adjustment of plant process, and maintenance of required records. 2.3 Perform activities necessary to manage and dispose of sludge from treatment process. 2.4 Perform preventive maintenance activities for plant pumps and equipment. Perform general housekeeping duties in and around plant site. 2.5 Communicate with regulatory agency personnel, lab, technical services, equipment services, and Central Office personnel. 2.6 Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

3.1 Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant and treatment plant processes. 3.2 Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of pumps and other equipment utilized in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. 3.3 Knowledge of environmental regulations relating to the operation of a wastewater treatment plant. 3.4 Skill in the monitoring of wastewater treatment plant processes and routine lab tests. 3.5 Ability to read technical manuals, work orders, permits, rules, regulations, charts and graphs. 3.6 Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations necessary to compute plant flows and test results. 3.7 Ability to write operator reports, summaries, daily logs, and activity reports. 3.8 Ability to operate tractor, bobcat, belt press, and various test equipment. 3.9 Ability to operate assigned vehicle. 3.10 Ability to use power and hand tools such as wrenches, drill and drill press, welder and torch, rake and broom. Environmental Conditions

4.1 Work is performed indoors and outdoors in extreme heat (100f) and cold (32f) in all weather conditions and may involve exposure to potential noise, mechanical, electrical, fume/odor, dust/mite, chemical, toxic waste hazards with proper precautionary procedures and equipment. 4.2 Work involves performing tasks in confined spaces. Education, Certification, and Experience Required

5.1 High school diploma or equivalent. 5.2 Two years' experience in the operation and maintenance of activated sludge wastewater treatment plants. 5.3 Must have a Class "C" Wastewater License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality; Class "B" preferred. 5.4 Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License. Physical Requirements

6.1 Ability to sit while performing various office and lab testing functions, and while driving. 6.2 Ability to walk and stand while monitoring plant operations and performing maintenance tasks. 6.3 Occasionally ability to kneel, crouch/stoop, squat, crawl, twist upper body, and climb ladders while performing various inspection and maintenance functions. 6.4 Ability to grasp with hands and manipulate lab instruments and sampler containers. 6.5 Ability to grasp with hands and push, pull, shove, or lift with help heavy, bulky items such as chlorine cylinders or granular containers weighing up to 200 lbs. 6.6 Ability to grasp with hands and turn valves.
