The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is an award-winning organization with over 5,000 employees that administers over 52,000 acres of stream valley parks, large regional parks, neighborhood parks, and park-school recreation areas throughout Montgomery and Prince George's counties. In Prince George's County, we are also responsible for developing the County's public recreation programs. The Department of Parks & Recreation has the overall responsibility for planning, supervising, and coordinating all park/recreation facilities and services throughout Prince George's County. The Northern Region Parks Division (NRPD) is one of three maintenance Divisions within this Department and is composed of eight major work programs: Fleet Management/Trades, Building Maintenance, Area Maintenance, Playgrounds, Trails, Athletic Field/Turf Management, Trash/Recycling/Waste Management, Program Support, and the administrative section. The mission of NRPD is to provide professional, high-quality maintenance and maintenance support services for all parks and recreation facilities and to support the diverse work programs of the Parks & Recreation Department in Prince George's County and its customers. This Administrative Assistant II will provide administrative support work to Park Maintenance Operations staff in the Northern Region Parks Division. The candidate should possess excellent communication skills, organization, time management, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel). The candidate should also possess a strong work ethic, be self-motivated, take initiative, be detail-oriented, be a team player, and balance multiple requests and meet deadlines for various work programs. Generally, the park program hours of operation are from 5:45 am

2:30 pm, Monday through Friday. This is a full-performance administrative office support position. At that time, a new job posting may be available for application to future openings. Examples of Important Duties

Provides administrative support for assigned supervisors, staff, and facilities in an accurate, efficient, and timely manner. Prepares all proposed general correspondence, memoranda, and reports, utilizing proper grammar and syntax skills in an accurate, neat, and timely manner. Prepares error-free copies. Types correspondence to include memos, letters and other documents from handwritten notes and finalizes documents from typed draft documents. Delegates and reviews work of other career and seasonal Administrative Assistants with similar responsibilities. Serves as a purchasing agent for the division, using purchase orders, purchase card, and/or petty cash while adhering to Purchasing Policies and Procedures. Maintains accurate records of expenditures for the division and provides reports for budgeting purposes. Tracks due dates and deadlines for various items such as employee performance reviews, expense reports, DOT recertifications, mileage logs, etc. Alerts supervisors and staff of any deadlines or pending matters. Responds to inquiries and requests for information and direct concerns and complaints from citizens in an appropriate manner. Greets all visitors and promptly and courteously directs them to the appropriate location(s) and resource person. Serves as telephone receptionist as appropriate and greets all callers promptly and courteously. Provides and maintains a working inventory of supplies and forms for the support of an efficient work program. Maintains confidential employee personnel files and updates information as needed. Archives files. Provides data entry using Excel spreadsheets and other computer software. Maintains various calendars for the division. Assists staff with a wide variety of tasks such as payroll discrepancies, registering for Commission events and training, Open Enrollment, and completing and submitting various forms. Minimum Qualifications

1. High school diploma or a Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). 2. Two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in administrative support and clerical work or customer service that typically involves performance of a range of general office support functions. 3. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total 2 years. Supplemental Information
