The current vacancy is in the Shasta County Agricultural/Weights And Measures Department. This position requires possession of a California licensure and a valid driver's license. About The Department The Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures enforces California's Food and Agriculture Code, Business and Professions Code, California Code of Regulations, and local ordinances. It includes pesticide use enforcement, pest exclusion and export services, pest detection/eradication, nursery and seed inspection, fruit/vegetable/egg quality control, apiary services, and weights and measures programs. About The Position Under general direction, this role supervises and assists in the administration and coordination of the agricultural and weights and measures inspection and enforcement program. Distinguishing Characteristics Under the direction of the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures, this role is responsible for field duties and assisting in departmental administration, acting for the Commissioner/Sealer in their absence, and performing other related duties. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate has substantial experience in Agricultural and Weights And Measures programs, excellent communication skills, conflict resolution abilities, and experience in budgeting and reporting. Examples Of Essential Duties Duties may include performing all duties of Agricultural Standards Investigator III, assisting the Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures in planning and directing department operations, conducting inspections, representing the department at meetings, and supervising staff in the Commissioner/Sealer's absence. Qualifications Applicants must demonstrate possession and application of knowledge in county agricultural and weights and measures programs, inspection and enforcement techniques, research principles, and modern organization, administration, and supervision. Minimum qualifications include three years of experience in agricultural and/or weights and measures inspections and enforcement work. Special Requirements Possession of a valid California driver's license and either a valid California Deputy Agricultural Commissioner or Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures license at the time of appointment, with both licenses required within 18 months of appointment. Please select all that you possess: Valid license of eligibility as a Deputy Agricultural Commissioner issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture Valid license of eligibility as a Deputy Sealer of Weights and Measures issued by the California Department of Food and Agriculture Bachelor's degree specializing in Agriculture, Biological, Chemical, or Physical sciences or any discipline with a minimum 30 semester units, or equivalent, in one or any combination of the following: Agricultural science, Biological science, Chemical science, Physical science, Mathematics, and/or Statistics Two (2) years of experience in Agriculture, Biological, or Physical science related fields One (1) year of lead or supervisory experience in Agriculture, Biological, or Physical science related fields None of the above Physical Demands And Work Environment The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
