Job Opportunity: Cooling Center Mentor(s)
CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency, is looking for seasonal Cooling Center Mentor(s) for their 24/7 program. The Cooling Center provides emergency all day and overnight shelter for the unhoused during the summer heat. The Cooling Center provides a cool safe place for unsheltered individuals to spend the day or night during the summer season. Key Responsibilities: Greet guests and make them feel welcome and comfortable. Be a positive role model, through professional behavior and communication. Provide a safe and healthy environment through education, guidance, and personal interaction. Ensure cleanliness of the center and inform center manager of any maintenance issues. Responsible for guest safety, providing crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques as needed. Must adhere to staffing schedules to provide adequate and safe staffing coverage to accomplish program objectives. Requirements: High School diploma / GED and 1-2 years of related experience OR 3 years of experience working with the unhoused population in lieu of a HS diploma or GED. Ability to make and maintain contacts and positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance abuse services. Willingness to disclose prior use of mental health and/or addiction services and speak openly on their recovery. Ability to work with individuals with mental illness in a caring and professional manner. Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office) as well as general computer literacy. Bilingual skills are a plus!
