Data / BI Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data / BI Engineer to join our team in Newport News, VA to support a Department of Defense (DoD) client. The primary technical focus of this role will be data analysis and visualization, taking data primarily from Microsoft SQL databases and creating new insights, reports, and visuals that streamline decision making and enable our client to deliver mission services with greater efficiency and effectiveness. This role requires a detail-oriented individual who can work independently and collaboratively to develop robust data-driven solutions for our client. Your future duties and responsibilities: Design, develop, and maintain data solutions using Microsoft SQL server, which will include ETL processes, data warehousing, and data integration Develop and maintain interactive and visually appealing dashboards and reports using Power BI Collaborate with Administrators, and Specialists team members to optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and other techniques Work cross-functionally with team members and govt leaders to understand data requirements and deliver high-quality data solutions Collaborate with team members to safeguards to meet data integrity, security, and compliance requirements Continuously engage with stakeholders to identify and define/refine system features, functions, and capabilities to manage project requirements for agile development and delivery Develop and maintain documentation for data infrastructure Monitor and troubleshoot data centric issues associated with area of responsibility and provide timely solutions Continuously improve data reporting and visualizations, based on new requirements and mission need Required qualifications to be successful in this role: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field Due to the nature of the work, US citizenship and a Secret security clearance are required 3 to 5 years experience as a Data Engineer, Database Administrator, or similar role with a focus on Microsoft SQL technologies Proven experience with Data Visualization tools such Microsoft Power BI 3 to 5 years experience with ETL, SQL, UNIX/Linux, and Big Data distributed systems Basic knowledge of search technology, building real-time data pipelines and various programming languages like Java and Python Confidence communicating both verbally and in writing with both technical and non-technical staff Ability to work in a team-oriented environment Able to work independently, handle multiple concurrent projects, with an ability to prioritize and lead projects effectively Able to interpret, validate, and map data centric requirements to an appropriate solution Active DoD Secret clearance and IAT II certification (e.g. Security+, Cloud+) Desired qualifications/non-essential skills required: Experience working various programming languages like Java and Python, orchestration tools and processes or other directly related experience Experience with configuration management and version control systems (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps) Excellent interpersonal skills, good presentation, communication The candidate must be a team player, but be able to work independently, as required Ability to work within an Agile environment Experience with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS) Experience with DevSecOps principles and DoD policies related to the topic Compensation and benefits: CGI is required by law in some jurisdictions to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The determination of this range includes various factors not limited to skill set, level, experience, relevant training, and licensure and certifications. To support the ability to reward for merit-based performance, CGI typically does not hire individuals at or near the top of the range for their role. Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range for this role in the U.S. is $88,200.00 - $195,200.00.
