Under the supervision of the Water and Wastewater Superintendent, this employee performs tasks associated with wastewater collection, including lift station installation and maintenance, collection line installation and maintenance, and maintaining and operating sewer system vacuum truck. The employee may also assist with tasks associated with the Water and Wastewater Department and Public Works Department. This job is considered safety-sensitive and is subject to pre-employment background checks and random drug screens. The City of Fairhope offers many opportunities for certifications based upon department, leading to pay rate increases. Essential Functions
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Lift Station Installation and Maintenance.
The employee assists in installing new wastewater collection lift stations and repairing and maintaining existing lift stations. Assists with installation tasks associated with new wastewater collection system lift stations. Assists with repairs and maintenance for existing wastewater collection lift stations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Installs and Maintains Collection Lines.
Employee performs tasks associated with wastewater collection line installation and maintenance. Assists with installing new wastewater collection service mains and lines. Assists with repairing and maintaining existing wastewater collection mains and lines. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Operates and Maintains Sewer Vacuum Truck.
Employee operates and performs maintenance tasks for the sewer system vacuum truck. Safely operates the sewer vacuum truck. Monitors vacuum truck for required and routine maintenance; performs maintenance for the vacuum truck. ESSENTIAL FUNCTION: Assists Water and Public Works Departments.
Assists Water and Wastewater Department and Public Works Department work crews. Assists Water Department work crews when needed. Assists Public Works Department work crews when needed. NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:
Performs other job-related duties as required or assigned. Minimum Qualifications
Possess a high school diploma or GED. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of work experience in wastewater collection; prefer experience in lift station installation and maintenance. Possess a Class A CDL with tanker endorsement or obtain this license within six (6) months of employment; must be insurable. Ability to travel to attend professional development training programs and workshops. Ability to work overtime and non-standard hours when required. Ability to pass a pre-employment background check and an initial drug screen. Supplemental Information

(* Can be acquired on the job) Knowledge of City rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Knowledge of City geography, road, and street systems. Knowledge of municipal wastewater collection systems and system operations. Knowledge of wastewater lift station operation and maintenance. Knowledge of safety rules including accident causation and prevention. Communication skills to effectively communicate internally, both orally and in writing. Verbal skills to effectively communicate with co-workers and supervisors over the telephone and two-way radio. Math skills to perform basic mathematical calculations. Ability to use a two-way radio. Ability to operate and maintain a sewer vacuum truck. Ability to troubleshoot and resolve lift station issues or problems. Ability to handle dynamic situations in a calm and courteous manner. Ability to drive. Physical Demands
The work requires considerable and strenuous physical exertion such as frequent climbing of tall ladders, lifting heavy objects over 50 lbs., and crouching or crawling in restricted areas. Work Environment
The work environment involves high risks with exposure to potentially dangerous situations or unusual environmental stress which require a range of safety and other precautions, e.g., working at great heights, working under extreme weather conditions, or similar situations where conditions cannot be controlled.
