Neighborhoods To Trails Southwest Job Post

Neighborhoods To Trails Southwest intends to inform the public about the impact of trees and the wildlife habitat along three urban trails in SW Houston. Data to illustrate the benefits of vegetation along segments of three neighborhood trails will be gathered, analyzed, and distributed as Environmental Education in Community Outreach events. The data will be used to describe nature observation points to encourage people to spend time outdoors and connect with nature, promoting physical and mental well-being. Location: Houston, TX Schedule: September 22, 2025 - March 21, 2026 Key Duties and Responsibilities: Photograph and inventory trails with existing iNaturalist, e-bird projects, collect data with i-Tree and deliver environmental education about the habitat and wildlife on some sections of three trails; Organize and promote walks, cycling and nature events; Organize and promote the 7th and 8th Bird Walks with an Audubon Guide on Keegans Bayou Trail; Initiate fishing clinics at Willow Waterhole Greenspace Conservancy; Initiate a relationship to deliver environmental education in some form to one middle school concerning the biodiversity of the adjoining Fondren Diversion Channel Trail; Single-day Service Projects, Clean-up and possible clearing brush on 200 feet (permission pending); Inventory the Prairie Garden at WWH by species and bloom time using available seasonal charts with the assistance of the Native Plant and Native Prairie members; Assist in general WWH conservation tasks (clearing, invasive species removal, watering); Assist with identifying and removing any non-native plants from protected area post construction of boardwalk at WWH; Assist with documenting any protected prairie damage during boardwalk construction at WWH; Organize Fruit Tree Give-aways; Contribute with the Social Media Team to Post to FB, Insta, YouTube; Contribute with the Communications Team to the website and newsletter; Create content to update kiosks at WWH Marginal Duties: Attend monthly NTTSW virtual meetings and a couple Civic Group meetings in person; Co-present at one Civic meeting in March and possibly more; Attend some Community engagement meetings among planning entities, environment, government, and the community along the Trails expecting stormwater installations; Be aware of ongoing Cultural and Historical Research of the Riceville Community along Keegans Bayou Trail, research provided Required Qualifications: Personal Vehicle Required; Cyclist: possibility of a loaner bike, Metro 8 with two bike racks connect the three Trails; Experience Leading Groups Preferred Qualifications: Native Plant enthusiast or willing to learn; Arborist interests or skills; Bilingual, Spanish/English Hours: 40 per week Living Accommodations: No living allowance from NTTSW; Houston Resident or from nearby Stafford, Missouri City or Alief Compensation: Compensated by SCA; No employment allowance from NTTSW All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
