The GW Medical Faculty Associates (MFA) was incorporated in July 2000 as a not-for-profit, physician-led practice group. The organization functioned as an independent organization in support of The George Washington University School of Medicine and Sciences as a multi-specialty physician practice group. The GW MFA has grown to become the largest independent academic physician practice in the Washington, DC metro region with more than 500 physicians and nearly 200 APP providers. In 2018, the MFA bylaws were revised to allow The George Washington University to serve as the sole corporate member while the MFA retained independent 501c3 status. The purpose of the change was to ensure alignment between the MFA and The George Washington University. MFA physicians provide comprehensive patient care, offering one practice for the whole person with 52 medical and surgical specialties. As members of the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences faculty, MFA providers are teachers and mentors for medical students, residents, fellows, and researchers preserving the rich tradition of academics, research, and healing. In addition to maintaining a closely integrated alliance with The George Washington University and The George Washington University Hospital (GWUH) which is separately owned and operated by Universal Health Services (UHS), the GW MFA has active referring relationships with 12 area hospitals. The GW MFA's leading healthcare presence in the DC metro region is complemented by a network of community-based practices in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Given its geographic location in central NW Washington, DC, and proximity to more than 175 resident embassies, the MFA continues to evolve its international clinical outreach. Position Summary Perform a variety of duties pertaining to the department's Residency and Medical Student program. Work closely with the director, GME office and SOM office. Demonstrates exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize work, problem-solving skills, effective written and verbal communications skills, proficient computer skills including online resources and applications, and ability to adapt and adjust to new or changing situations. Participate in institutional and departmental meetings. Will also be the back up for department's Administrative Assistants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned. Residency/Clerkship Coordinator Monitors adherence and fulfillment of all compliance requirements set forth by ACGME, GWU GME, and additional governing bodies in order to ensure continued accreditation of the Residency/Fellowship programs. Reviews and assesses current ACGME requirements for the residency program and monitors requirements for change. Identifies and recommends to residency director and the GME Office curriculum changes needed to meet new ACGME requirements. Participates fully in the two-day residency interview process to include one weekend day. Assist in the onboarding and orientation process of new residents/fellow/medical students Manages the recruiting activities for the residency program; coordinates with NRMP or other match program; designs, in conjunction with the residency director and GME Office, program brochures and applications; coordinates participation in ERAS Participates in annual budget planning and implementation; monitors and tracks GME-related expenses throughout the fiscal year. Initiates, develops and implements residency program policies in conjunction with residency directors and the GME Office; ensures program compliance with ACGME and institutional regulations. Counsels residents as appropriate, on program requirements, policies and regulations. Monitor and maintaining licensure documents to assure all residents are fully licensed through the Residency Monitor and coordinate resident certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS) as required by GWU GME and the department. Coordinates individual program orientation with each program and the GME Office on an annual basis. Prepares and coordinates materials and resources for the ACGME site visit review Establishes and maintains an up-to-date web site for the program Take notes and provide meeting minutes for the Clinical Competency, Program Evaluation Committee and Resident Milestones. Communicates with other University representatives, government agencies, student or alumni groups, learned societies, accreditation bodies and other individuals or groups to exchange information, enlist cooperation and implement departmental programs. Assist in the monthly Grand Rounds to include room reservations, CME codes. Administrative Assistant Make patient appointments Arrange and coordinate all preoperative appointments Contact primary care physician and request necessary referrals for testing Gather all results from preoperative appointments before surgery Fax information to PASS unit Schedule patients' surgery Work with Savista to get Prior-authorizations for all surgical procedures Mail out all clinical correspondence for physician(s) Gather demographics on patients for billing (if done at other hospital) Find all diagnosis codes for all surgical and office billing Verify that all surgeries have been billed Keep list of all surgical procedures Sorting and routing faxes from the fax queue to AA based on their assigned providers Scanning documents into Epic via OnBase Assisting schedulers with appointment queue Collect fees and help organize the annual Cherry Blossom Ocular Pathology course. This includes ensuring that all the speakers sign their disclosure forms, W-9, and consent forms. Other miscellaneous duties (medical records requests, etc.) Minimum Qualifications Education A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Experience A minimum of 3 years of secretarial experience in a healthcare environment. Physical Requirements Walk, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulder frequently in an office setting. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry and frequently push or pull up to 20 lbs. as part of the role Regularly exposed to healthcare settings that may require personal protective equipment Requires manual dexterity to operate a computer keyboard, calculator, copier machine, and other equipment.
