Engineering Technician I

The City of Topeka is seeking an experienced construction professional to join its Construction Inspection team. This is a technical position that is responsible for construction surveying, interpreting plans and specifications, documenting construction activities and other related engineering work. What You'll Do:

Inspect new construction, renovation and repair work for quality, materials and workmanship to ensure compliance. Prepare and maintain construction progress reports and material testing documentation. Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, maps, legal descriptions and exhibits. Perform soil, concrete, asphalt, utility and a variety of other materials testing in both a field and laboratory setting. The Ideal Candidate:

Is relationship-driven, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Has knowledge of the construction industry, to include construction standards, related ordinances, and common materials and tools. Understands the principles of engineering drafting. Has an aptitude for technology. Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or its equivalent is required. One year of experience in construction or construction inspection field or one year of high school level training in the construction trade or engineering field is required. Must possess and maintain a valid Class C Kansas driver's license and city-insurable driving record.
