Assistant Prosecuting Attorney
Ingham County is offering a position for an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney with a salary range of $37.02 to $58.75 hourly. The job is located in Lansing, MI and is classified as a regular part-time position. The position could possibly close at any time until sufficient numbers of qualified applications are received. The Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will be responsible for prosecuting criminal cases, child abuse and neglect cases, delinquency cases, and establishing paternity and child support on behalf of the residents and/or crime victims of Ingham County. Essential Functions
The essential functions of this position include: Reviewing adult and juvenile warrant requests to determine whether charges should be issued. Representing the Prosecutor's Office in criminal and civil trial practice. Conducting intake interviews and initiating paternity or child support cases. Complying with the Crime Victims' Rights Act. Preparing search warrants for police agencies. Reviewing requests for disclosure under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act. Preparing fugitive, extradition, and detainer paperwork. Representing local law enforcement agencies in civil forfeiture proceedings. Representing the Prosecutor's Office in appellate matters. Representing the Prosecutor's Office at involuntary commitment hearings and Personal Protection Hearings. Handling duties as a special prosecutor for cases originating outside Ingham County. Serving as the on-call assistant prosecutor for law enforcement agencies during non-business hours. Other functions include complying with all statutorily mandated functions, possessing a working knowledge of the Michigan Rules of Professional Conduct, Michigan Court Rules, Michigan Rules of Evidence, Brady requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal authority. Additionally, the Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will perform other duties as assigned. Employment Qualifications
To qualify for this position, the candidate must: Be a graduate of an accredited school of law. Have entry-level experience with criminal law and procedure, which may be in the form of internships or externships. Requirements and Working Conditions
Other requirements include being licensed to practice law in Michigan, or having taken the bar examination and awaiting results. The candidate must demonstrate effective communication skills by engaging with individuals from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, disability statuses, ages, LGBTQIA+ statuses, and genders to ensure clarity and understanding in all interactions. Physical requirements include the ability to read police reports, documents, and other materials; verbally communicate with individuals; appear in court; be available for a 24-hour on-call schedule; access any part of the county and time-specific crime scenes; and lift and carry heavy case files or computers to court. Working conditions include the ability to work in an office setting.
