Centro is looking for a Communications Publications Editorial Manager (HEA), to direct CENTRO Press, CENTRO's publication initiative for academic books in Puerto Rican Studies as well as Puerto Rican and Diasporican literature. This position reports to the Centro's Director of Research Programs and manages the vision and acquisition process of the press, communications with writers, reviewers and advisory board members, and coordinates publications. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Articulate and execute the strategic vision of CENTRO Press, positioning it as a leading platform for Puerto Rican and Diasporican literature. Lead the acquisition of high-quality manuscripts in Puerto Rican Studies and Puerto Rican and Diasporican literature, managing rights negotiations and relationships with authors, with rights holders and estates. Serve as the primary liaison with writers, rights holders, translators, reviewers, advisory board members, fostering professional relationships and ensuring clear, effective communication. Manage the publication lifecycle from manuscript acquisition through editing, design, production, and distribution- ensuring timely and quality outputs. Partner with CENTRO'S communication and design teams to develop compelling book layouts, marketing strategies, and promotional material, to maximize visibility and impact. Provide developmental editing as well as line editing and copy editing, when needed. Conduct research on academic and literary trends, emerging voices, and potential partnerships for collaboration that align with organizational goals. Support the broader Centro Publications Team in the production of organizational publications, which may include journals, books, posters, catalogs, brochures, and promotion materials such as newsletters, reports, postcards, and fliers. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required. Other Qualifications: Master's Degree in Puerto Rican/Caribbean/Latino Studies, English, History, journalism, or a related field preferred. Excellent communication skills in English and Spanish. Familiarity with publishing and editing software, including the Microsoft Office and Google suites. Knowledge of academic databases and/or graphic design software (such as InDesign). Deep commitment to issues related to the Puerto Rican experience in the United States and the broader Caribbean diaspora. Compensation and Benefits: Salary commensurate with education and experience $87,978-$110,394 (April 2024 contract). CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
