This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Department: Digitization Support Time Type: Part time FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Job Description: The Digitization Student Assistant B works on departmental digitization initiatives and reformats a range of materials from University Archives and Special Collections. The student assistant will learn digitization techniques and some introductory archival and preservation concepts, including, but not limited to, proper material handling, imaging software and hardware, and basic metadata collection. The student assistant will be the primary operator for the DT Atom camera platform. Summary: The Digitization Student Assistant B works on departmental digitization initiatives and reformats a range of materials from University Archives and Special Collections. The student assistant will learn digitization techniques and some introductory archival and preservation concepts, including, but not limited to, proper material handling, imaging software and hardware, and basic metadata collection. The student assistant will be the primary operator for the DT Atom camera platform. Responsibilities: Digitization of analog formats including a/v, images, and documents. Prepare materials for scanning, including removing staples, bindings, and creases. Learning and utilizing DT Atom camera platform and Capture One Software. Perform quality control for images scanned including image editing and review for accuracy. Adhere to preservation protocols and best-practices. Maintain original order and location of all collection materials. Track digitization progress in Teams or Excel. Maintain records of all required data fields as provided by supervisor. Researching and scanning to fulfill reference requests. Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work: Part-Time. 20 hours per week. Must be able to commit to a minimum of 4 hours per shift, Mon - Fri 9am - 5pm. Salary Range: $17.95 per hour. Required Education and Experience: High school diploma or its equivalent. Excellent organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently under minimal supervision. Able to learn and adapt to new technologies. Reliable and responsive to communications in a timely manner. Ability to lift items up to 40 pounds and retrieve materials from shelves that are seven feet high. Ability to repeatedly stand and maneuver scanning equipment. Preferred Education and Experience: Familiarity with Archives and Special collections and experience with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with scanning or photography is also encouraged.
