Secret Aerospace and Aviation Maintenance Technician
Naval Air Station San Diego, CA (On-Site/Office) Duties You will disassemble, repair, assemble, modify, measure, and/or check, as required, to process aircraft, aircraft engine structures, components, assembles, and/or sub-assemblies. You will perform a variety of metal repair, fabrication, plan, layout and structural disassembly/assembly of aircraft and aircraft components. You will work with plastics and various metals and apply knowledge of basic level shop mathematics. You will work from drawings, manuals, technical directives, instructions and at times, under the guidance of a higher-graded mechanic. Requirements Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to lift and carry objects up to 45 lbs. Any weight to be lifted in excess of 40 lbs. will not be attempted unaided. You will be subject to various noise levels which continuously exceeds 85 DBA. Hearing protection will be required for noise levels of 85 DBA and double protection will be required for noise levels over 105 DBA. This position requires near vision correctable at 14" to Jaeger 2 and far vision correctable in one eye 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other. You must be able to distinguish colors and depth perception. This position may require climbing which could exceed heights of 20 feet or more. You must obtain and maintain required certification and/or license as a condition of employment. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
