Mediator-Circuit/Family
This position informs parties of the mediation process, assists parties in resolving disputes, and prepares settlement agreements for review by the circuit courts and incorporation of agreements into orders, as appropriate. Working relationships are established with judges, court personnel, attorneys, and the general public. The person in this position will also be responsible for maintaining required statistical data, and other duties as directed. This position exercises independent judgment and works under the supervision of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Director. Examples of work performed include facilitating discussions and communications between the parties, helping the parties reach an equitable settlement of their differences, reviewing cases referred to the program for appropriateness, reviewing case files, confidential reports, and other materials pertinent to the case, conducting mediations, facilitating the discussion of legal issues between involved parties for court referred cases, informing parties concerning the mediation process, preparing settlement agreements, as appropriate and conference reports on all cases mediated, preparing related documents to dispose of cases; submitting agreements and documents to parties and to judge for review and incorporation into final orders, preparing and maintaining statistical records and reports, completing continuing education training on a regular basis to maintain mediation certification; staying abreast of current standards and practices for certified and court appointed mediators, and performing other office related work as required. Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in social work, law, or a closely related field and court/legal related experience. Requires Florida Supreme Court certification in family mediation. Preferred certifications include Florida Supreme Court certification in county mediation and Florida Supreme Court certification in dependency mediation. Knowledge, skills, and abilities include familiarity with the Florida Court System; court's alternative dispute resolution program, specifically dependency and family court divisions, court policies and procedures; pertinent laws, rules, and goals, processes and techniques of resolving disputes; analyze information and make sound decisions, knowledge of the rules of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, ability to accurately determine child support calculation, proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel, ability to prioritize work and communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
