Be a part of a world-class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine, Ingalls Memorial Hospital as an Unit Secretary at our Emergency Department in Harvey, Illinois location. In this role, you will act as a central information source of physicians and other health care professionals. Our Unit Secretary's pride themselves on maintaining patient privacy and confidentially at all times. Under the leadership of the Manager and/or designee provides clerical support to assist in the delivery of quality care to patients. This involves clerical support activities which will facilitate the Patient Care Center operations including: transcription processing of physician orders, serves as a reception agent for all patients/family members, physician, patient care team members, other healthcare team members, and facilitates the channeling of information to appropriate points of service timely and accurately. Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide services for patients according to unit specific competencies as appropriate to the age of the patient served as delineated in the Center's Scope of Care. Essential Job Functions Promotes the values and mission of Ingalls Memorial Hospital. Promotes clinical excellence and service. Strong patient advocate. Demonstrates knowledge of proper telephone function and proper telephone etiquette. Screens and coordinates incoming and outgoing calls including recording and reporting pages and messages. Answers call lights promptly, communicates patient needs to appropriate personnel, and follow up on patient requests to ensure response. Transcribes medical staff orders in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures accurate processing of orders and charges from admission through hospitalization. Ensure accurate maintenance of the patient's medical record and all unit records. Assembles the medical record in the proper sequence checking that all forms are stamped. Identifies outlier reports and forms and notes on audit tool for completion. Participates in inventory ordering and the distribution of clerical supplies/patient forms and disposition of outdated forms. Monitors discharge activities related to the billing process. Required Qualifications Unit Secretary/Clerical experience, background and/or training High School diploma or equivalent Ability to function effectively in an extended team environment Ability to resolve conflict effectively Ability to give and receive feedback Computer literate Preferred Qualifications Medical Terminology background Transcription experience Experience with Microsoft Word & Excel Position Details Job Type/FTE: Full-time (0.9 FTE) 12 hour shifts Shift: Days Unit/Department: Emergency Room CBA Code: SEIU Why Join Us
