Summer Field Engineer Intern
Harder Mechanical is one of the nation's largest mechanical contractors with an outstanding reputation for working safely, meeting tough schedules, and delivering quality projects. Based in Portland Oregon, we work primarily in the 11-western states with regional offices in Reno, NV; Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles, CA; Richmond, CA; Salt Lake City, UT. As a Summer Field Engineer Intern, you will be performing some of the actual duties of a full-time project engineer and gain hands-on experience in the construction environment. You may assist the project team with planning, scheduling, and executing a specific scope of your assigned project. This internship will give you experience in mechanical engineering, navigating the construction industry, and in learning how to communicate with different parties on the job site. Our internship program is designed to support your career and further your path into entry level engineering positions. Full time summer internships are available for 2026, determined by company workload in Portland, OR; Phoenix, AZ; Richmond, CA; Reno, NV; and Boise, ID. This position is paid hourly with the possibility of overtime as needed. Please submit a cover letter along with your resume. Field Engineer Interns at Harder perform the following daily tasks: Interpret blueprint construction drawings and technical manuals Maintain master set of project drawings and specifications Update drawing revision log, distribute hard copies of revised drawings to field Project tracking and Scheduling Status the percent complete of the project. Confirm and document units completed, track / confirm the quantities placed, compare progress to the estimate and the schedule Review current cost and project future costs. Assist the sequencing of a work plan Create a 3 week look-ahead for planned activities by crew Primavera P6 and Excel are both used to plan construction activities Estimating and Purchasing Estimating, pricing, and bidding work Get material quotes from vendors or subcontractor quotes Purchase, expedite and coordinate project materials Receive pricing quotes, issue purchase orders, coordinate delivery of material as well as receiving and storage May include inspection and receiving reports for delivered material or laydown yard organization Contract Administration Organize packages for submittals, change orders, Request for Information (RFI), Turn Over Packages and 'As Built' drawings Maintain logs which may include: RFI log, change order log, submittal log. purchasing and receiving log Subcontract Management Prepare/write subcontracts, preparation of subcontractor bid packages Coordinate work between subcontractors Manage and review subcontractor change orders What you will need to be successful in this role: Must be able to meet deadlines
strong organizational and time management skills are essential Effective verbal and written communication skills Flexible with work locations, must be able to travel /relocate for the work term Must have a valid driver's license Education/Experience: Demonstrated interest in a career in construction Preferred degree in construction management or engineering HMC reserves the right to perform a drug screening and background check, as may be required, and this offer may be contingent on passing a drug screening and background check.
