Demonstrate thorough knowledge of principles and techniques of a specific skilled trade, and apply principles, tools, and the correct equipment to perform the essential duties/responsibilities. Effectively handle and prioritize situations and goals to maximize available resources and problem-solving skills to analyze complex problems and implement corrective actions. Assist in interviewing, selecting, and counseling staff in the specific trade of the Engineering Services and/or Planning, Design, and Construction Departments by MU Health Care standards. Exchange information with others and develop and present recommendations. Participate in the design and oversight of all large construction/renovation projects system-wide involving the assigned skilled trades. Monitor department operations and objectives to ensure quality services are being provided. Establish operations guidelines and maintenance schedules for the facilities involving their specific trade that meet regulatory requirements. Monitor workload and productivity to meet the department's standards. Schedule staff and approve requested time off. Teach and demonstrate to staff appropriate methods and procedures to review work-in-progress for adherence to standards and completion of work promptly. Plan, assign, and distribute work to staff. Order all parts and equipment and maintain inventory records and requisitions. Ensure staff keep all areas clean and maintained professionally. Develop, coordinate, and maintain daily staffing schedules to ensure the appropriate level of unit coverage and continuity of care. Monitor time and attendance in alignment with MU Health Care policies and practices, ensuring accuracy of records and timely submittal/approval for payroll purposes. May complete unit/department-specific duties and expectations as outlined in department documents. Required Qualifications: High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Four (4) years of experience in all phases of skills trade installation, repair, and maintenance. Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of supervisory experience in this trade area. Licensed in electrical, plumbing or HVAC and/or EPA 608 certification. Completion of an approved apprenticeship program. Additional license/certification requirements as determined by the hiring department.
