DevOps Engineer

The New York Times is looking for a DevOps Engineer for its DevEx Application Delivery team in Developer Platforms. The Developer Platforms team is an essential part of The New York Times' engineering organization. Its responsibilities are profoundly technical and include providing cloud infrastructure, building platforms with integrated CI/CD workflows, runtimes, routing and observability to over 60 teams and 450+ engineers in NYT Product Engineering via an Internal Developer Platform. You will be a part of the DevEx Application Delivery Team within Developer Platforms responsible for building the basic building blocks for the software development that allow engineering teams at the New York Times to ship code with high velocity and quality. You'll be responsible for the operational excellence of the Tier 0 CI/CD systems and building ideal CI/CD paved paths in our internal shared platform with a focus to improve developer experience and developer productivity. You will report to the Engineering Manager of the DevEx Platforms team. You will follow a hybrid work schedule based in our New York City headquarters. You will be expected to come into the office two days a week. Responsibilities

Develop and maintain core infrastructure for Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment platform that supports hundreds of builds and deployments per day Work in a highly collaborative environment with product managers and engineers who are building an internal developer platform. Work with team leads, and individual developers. Your goals will include operational excellence of our Tier 0 CI/CD systems, establishing and implementing ideal CI/CD workflows in our shared platform to support our internal platform adoption goals, and ensuring these workflows boost developer productivity to ship high quality applications with confidence Work with other engineers to surface our CI/CD metrics and identify opportunities to further improve our build performance and release quality Production support by participating in on-call rotations for the systems we build, and providing expertise to users of our solutions Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world Basic Qualifications

3+ years of professional software engineering experience and strong coding and software design fundamentals (language-agnostic, but we mainly use Go) 2+ years of experience with services provided by Amazon Web Services or Google Cloud Platform 2+ years of experience in working with CI/CD systems like Github Actions, Jenkins, Buildkite and ArgoCD and leveraging capabilities such as Blue/Green and Canary deployments 2+ years of experience with containers and container orchestration, and provisioning immutable infrastructure using Terraform and observability tooling like DataDog and Prometheus 1+ years of experience designing or advocating for better developer workflows, documentation, and internal platforms 1+ years of first-hand experience using GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar tools for AI-assisted development workflows Experience troubleshooting issues with users: You are motivated by helping others succeed Preferred Qualifications

1+ years of experience with deploying, running and troubleshooting workloads on Kubernetes clusters (understanding of resources management and observability) Experience in prompt engineering or building AI-powered internal tools Pay Range

The annual base pay range for this role is between: $110,000
