Air Reserve Technician Position

The primary purpose of this position is: As an Air Reserve Technician (ART), to evaluate and conduct Quality Inspections for the operation of Base Fuels requirements in the contract for the Base Operating Service (BOS). As such, assures the quality of bulk petroleum products and equipment. Additionally, the incumbent trains reservists in the accomplishment of tasks set forth herein. DUTIES: Conducts comprehensive inspections of the entire fuels operations to ensure contract performance meets Air Force technical orders, regulations, and Governmental laws. In the event of suspected contamination, the incumbent investigates possible causes of contamination and takes necessary steps to eliminate the problem, either by analysis in the base lab or obtaining and forwarding samples to the area AFLC Aerospace Fuels Lab. Maintain records and reports on all test analysis. Identifies and controls the isolation and removal from service of fuel systems and products when they fail to conform to the existing operational or quality standards. Conducts systematic sampling and testing of petroleum fuel and cryogenic products. Establishes a base fuels laboratory, equipped for limited tests to evaluate the cleanliness of fuel and fuel handling systems. Trains personnel on OJT in sampling procedures and quality control procedures. Utilizes safety/environmental practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment (i.e. foot, eye, and ear protective gear) and clothing (i.e. cotton). Polices grounds, buildings, and pits to maintain area in accordance with fire prevention and security directives. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5400 Industrial Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of a FUEL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM WORK INSPECTOR with little to no supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Knowledge of the operation of one or several complex workstations in fuel storage, cryogenic storage, and distribution systems. Knowledge of methods used in the load, unload, transfer, and storage of liquid fuels and cryogenic products. Knowledge of the methods used to gauge tanks before, during, and at the end of fuel/cryogenic operations. Skill in operating various types of pumps and other fuel distribution equipment and manipulating numerous controls to properly regulate the flow of liquids in a safe and efficient manner. Skill in performing routine operator maintenance, minor repair, annual periodic maintenance, and overhaul of items such as tanks, pumps, motors, and valves. Skill in interpreting, explaining, and applying technical requirements and specification to quality problems during inspections or investigations. Skill in performing fuel/cryogenic product sampling and testing. Other Significant Facts: This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in unit training assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance. Part-time or unpaid experience: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
