Laboratory Technologist

Medical Technologists are professional health caregivers who constantly seek performance improvement in all areas of Laboratory analysis. The Medical Technologist III will interact and service all age groups including neonatal, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric. They must be proficient in phlebotomy for the groups (if applicable). All technicians and technologists are generalists and must be able to perform automated and manual testing in Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Microbiology, and Serology. They must have the ability to perform instrument maintenance and be competent to interpret calibrations and QC. They must be able to prioritize work and maintain a professional demeanor under stress. Education: Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. Note: Alternative degrees in science and U.S. military laboratory training can be accepted if CLIA alternative education requirements are shown to have been met. Transcripts will need to be submitted with application. Experience: 18 months of hospital laboratory experience required with six of the months in full-time equivalent general medical technology position within a Valley Health facility required. Certification & Licensure: MT/CLS/MLS certification (ASCP or equivalent) or state licensure required. West Virginia DHHR Clinical Laboratory Practitioner License, if applicable. Primary Source Verification is required. Qualifications: Demonstrates knowledge/competence in the performance of diagnostic testing applying Det Norske Veritas (DNV) patient safety initiatives and applies these to all aspects of patient care. Ability to consistently pay attention to detail while maintaining quality and productivity required Ability to prioritize work and situational professional demands required. Ability to precept staff required. Professional demeanor and communication, both verbal and written, when under stress required Professional and respectful interaction in all situations with patients, physicians and employees required. Assume additional responsibilities of charge as assigned. Fulfilling at least two of the following related items below on an annual basis: Overseeing area specific training program Assume responsibility for CAP specific checklist(s) Yearly oversight for 2 specific IQCP (including proof of compliance for all elements) Function as chair for a laboratory committee Take on the role of Laboratory Safety Officer for a minimum of 1 year Represent lab on a hospital/system wide committee Prepare a semi-annual presentation on an approved topic related to the laboratory and within the specific approval guidelines outlined in the "Laboratory MT/MLT Tiers" policy Complete a process improvement project within the specific approval guidelines Benefits
