Jefferson Parish is hiring for a welding position with a salary of $39,210.00 - $47,052.00 annually. The job is located in West Bank - Jefferson Parish, LA, and is a permanent position. The job number is 2310-09A, and the department is Drainage - West Bank 3302, under the Division of Line Cleaning 3302-314. The purpose of this position is to perform all routine work involved in welding under general supervision. This includes the use of welding procedures in fabrication, preventive maintenance, and on construction projects. The employee will read plans and fabricate from drawings. Welds on engines and pumps and welds that withstand high heat and vibrations will be required. The employee performs oxygen and acetylene welding, tip welding, and heliarc welding of aluminum using Argon gas. Acetylene, electric arc, aluminum mig, tig welding, and brazing in the maintenance, fabrication, and repair of lift stations, equipment, and fixtures. The employee will maintain and make minor repairs to welding equipment. This position entails performing work at levels of up to 40 ft. The employee must be able to estimate time and materials used for a particular job and complete necessary reports. Operates a welding truck. Drives to and from various locations to perform job duties. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a class D license, thus possession of a valid Class D Driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference. Minimum qualifications for admission to examination include at least six (6) months of verifiable, paid, journeyman-level welder experience, directly related to the work described above. OR a verifiable training credential from an NCCER Welding program or an American Welding Society (AWS) SENSE program (or other verifiable professional certification in an AWS Welding program). Proof of training is required. Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate but not to exceed the listed salary range. The kind of examination is (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL). The rating of training and experience will be conducted through the answers to the supplemental questions on the application. Applicants must supply complete and accurate information concerning their welding-related training and experience including a detailed description of their work experience, the names and addresses of all previous employers and the dates of employment.
