SummaryUnder the direction of the department Clinical Nurse Manager in accordance with the nursing practice standards established by the Nursing Organization, and by the specific unit/department rules, regulations and standards established by the State Board of Nursing, Det Norske Veritas (DNV) Accreditation and appropriate specialty organizations relevant to the patient population under the care of the House Administrator. The House Administrator assumes full accountability for planning, organization, direction, coordination, and evaluation of patient care services during his/her assigned shift. Responsibilities include but are not limited to resource allocation, quality improvement, patient safety, over-sight of on-call personnel, financial management, appropriation of equipment, patient and family advocacy, emergency management, and administrative supervision. The House Administrator role is crucial to the delivery of quality, cost-effective patient care and, therefore, the success of the St. Joseph Hospital. The House Administrator serves in the absence of the VP-PCS, clinical nursing directors, and the CEO.Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesSupports and promotes the mission and values of Covenant Health Ministry.Assumes administrative responsibilities in the absence of the President/CEO; VP/PCS.Keeps the Vice President of Patient Care Services, Directors and Managers informed to the needs of the clinicians, problems that may arise, and all emergency situations.Use of an electronic medical recordDisseminates information in a professional, non-threatening manner.Respects the confidentiality and the right to privacy of employees, customers, and patientsSupports and encourages open communication between nursing, ancillary services/departments, and medical staff.Assists members of Leadership Council in communication and interpretation to staff members of the changes in practice and policies.Coordinates on-call procedures for operating room teams, Pastoral Care, Endoscopy, NEDS, etc. during off shiftsCoordinates end of life care with families and funeral home representatives in collaboration with clinical staffCommunicates with marketing/planning when contacted for statements to the public and media on assigned shiftPerforms as a clinical resource for nursing care areas Identifies personnel issues, consults with human resource department and/or appropriate manager/directorInterprets hospital policies to patients, their family members and visitors, and personnelResolves human resource issues professionally, appropriately and in a timely mannerInvolves chain of command as appropriate and completes necessary documentationAttends Nursing Supervision meetingsCollaborates with nursing leaders in reviewing allocation of staffing resources and makes necessary adjustments for reassignment and use of per diem personnel.Implements the CODE PURPLE as appropriate for both the emergency department and inpatient cares, when needs exceed available resourcesOversees administration and implementation of reallocation of clinical staff to assure safe and quality patient care, including implementation of floating and cancellation guidelinesAttends and participates in development and implementation of continuing educational programs that relate to current positionAttends leadership classes offered by the Employee Experience Department.Participates in multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary committees to design and implement system-wide changeAdheres to the dress code and identification badge policiesAdheres to all safety procedures and regulations in relation to body mechanics, equipment usage, hazardous materials and safety behavior utilizing OSHA guidelines and guidelines set forth in safety manualsComplies with all policies and procedures regarding time in attendance reporting, punctuality, and attendanceAttends and completes all mandatory training assigned within timeframe givenMaintains nursing licensure and certifications, required for the department, current at all times.
