Shannon Library Assistant
The Information & Service Desk and its staff create the first impression library users have of Shannon Library. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of tasks related to services for library patrons at assigned service points and occasionally work on special projects. Punctuality, attention to detail, and dependability are the essential components of this position. Duties include providing customer service for library users; generally focused on charging, discharging, and renewing library materials. You must be comfortable with data entry, the use of standard office software programs and working within established guidelines and policies. You must possess a strong attention to detail, the ability to learn the Library of Congress call number system, the ability to work independently, and be proactive. This is a customer service / visitor service job. Your resume should highlight any customer/visitor service experience. The Shannon Library Information & Service Desk is staffed with student assistants from 8 AM-2 AM M during the semester. Weekly work schedules are built around student class schedules and availability. Extra consideration will be given to students who are willing and able to work early morning, late night, and/or weekend shifts. The pay rate for this position is $14.53/hour. Desired Skills:
Willingness and ability to work an established schedule. Be on time for each assigned shift. Dependability and accuracy. Attention to detail. Ability to use computers and library automation systems. Good interpersonal communication skills. Must have a good public service attitude and like working with people. Must be able to communicate verbally in a clear manner. Must be able to read printed labels. Must be able to push a full book cart and lift 15 pounds. Responsibilities:
Staff Service Desk. Checkout, discharge and renew library materials for patrons. Sort, deliver, and retrieve library materials within the building. Answer basic information, direction, circulation status, and library policy questions. Help patrons locate materials in the stacks and basic assistance with copy machines and printers. Assist patrons with library request forms. Assist in opening or closing of library during the first or last shift. Assist in maintaining the appearance of the library, keeping it neat and orderly. Must be able to work weekends and during exam week periods. Adhere to all library policies and procedures. Assist with general library duties as required. Special projects as assigned. If unable to work an assigned shift, must be able to find a substitute for that shift. Application Requirements:
