Accountant II
The Accountant II performs professional governmental accounting work applying generally accepted accounting principles to create, analyze and present financial information. Reconciles accounts, prepares financial statements and reports, and posts general ledger entries. Conducts month-end closings and account analysis. Assists in the year-end audit process. Assists other departments in financial record keeping, monitoring expenditures, and resolving discrepancies in accounts. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Fully responsible for multiple fund accounting including detailed account analysis. Prepares interim and year-end adjusting journal entries. Completes month-end closings, including journal entries, reporting and account analysis. Prepares audit work papers and assists with preparation of the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) Works with the independent auditors during the audit process. Reconciles on a monthly basis various general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers and external statements. Reconciles monthly sales and use tax revenues and provides reports for the monthly financial report provided to City Council. Maintains awareness of the internal and external work environments, looks at emerging demands and opportunities, and employs resources to meet them. Prepares monthly internal and external billings. Provides departments with reports and analysis to aid decision-making. Maintains accounting records for the City's foundations (Englewood Environmental and Englewood McLellan Reservoir) Processes and uploads multiple invoices for Accounts Payable. Other Duties & Responsibilities: Assists other departments with testing and implementation of new financial systems and upgrades including training of employees. Assists with payroll and accounts payable processes, and provides back up as necessary. Performs other duties as assigned and required. Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance or Business Work Experience: Minimum 3 years of governmental accounting Certifications and/or Licensures: None Required Driver's License: None An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant job experience may be substituted. Knowledge: Governmental Accounting ACFR Monthly closing Financial Reports Skills and Abilities: Computer Skills - Strong skills needed to generate spreadsheets and to work with databases and accounting software. Communication - Strong customer service skills required maintain working relationships with various departments. Strong skills needed to prepare and deliver presentations. Analytical - Strong skills required for problem solving and analyzing financial data. Project Management - Strong skills needed for project planning. Mathematical - Strong skills needed for manipulating numbers and working with spreadsheet formulas and calculations. Work is performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time, and occasional light lifting (up to 15 lbs.). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time (4-6 hours daily). $59,561.00 - $88,892.00 Annual Open Until Filled
