Application Specialist

The Application Specialist is responsible for supporting the District's enterprise systems and educational technology systems, including troubleshooting, training, and managing integrations. Additionally, this role serves as a project manager for other Information Technology (IT) system implementations, coordinating tasks, timelines, and communication to ensure successful deployment and adoption of new technologies. Primary role is to provide technical support and troubleshooting for the learning management system, addressing user issues and system errors. The secondary role is to take on the technical project manager role of new systems as they arise within the IT department. Responsibilities include: Reports consistently for work as scheduled Performs other duties as assigned Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards Assists with coordinating application upgrades and patching Communicates project goals, timelines, and milestones to stakeholders and team members Conducts needs assessments and gather requirements to ensure new systems meet District objectives Creates and maintains project documentation, including schedules, progress reports, and post-implementation reviews Creates and maintains documentation for disaster recovery purposes Creates, maintains, and documents enterprise system policies and procedures Defines reporting and scripting requirements and evaluate alternative solutions Develops and delivers training sessions for staff on learning management system features and best practices Facilitates collaboration between IT staff, vendors, and District departments to ensure project success Manages system integrations between the learning management system and other District systems, ensuring seamless data flow Monitors system performance and coordinate with vendors for updates or enhancements Participates in training activities to further knowledge Plans, coordinates, and oversees IT system implementation projects, ensuring they are delivered on time and within scope Plans and delivers needed professional development for the District Prioritizes workload and establish effective communication of those priorities Provides secondary support for other enterprise systems which are not part of the primary assignment Resolves technical issues and software bugs Serves as an effective team member of the Information Technology department Supervises a process governing authorization for enterprise systems to ensure application security Works additional unscheduled hours when required for critical tasks and provide 24-hour support when critical needs arise Works directly with end users to diagnose and resolve issues Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities include: Ability to analyze application integration architecture to simplify and automate business processes Ability to analyze project requirements for impact on systems and integration dependencies Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing Ability to create training materials and publish content for web access Ability to create, access, input, retrieve, and manipulate information in various software systems Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals from many diverse backgrounds and professions including supervisors, administrators, coworkers, staff, students, parents, and the general public Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to greet and interact with the public in a courteous and professional manner Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to manage simultaneous demands and set clear priorities Ability to operate standard office equipment, performing a wide range of supportive tasks Ability to use computer equipment and related software to support diagnostics Ability to work days, hours, locations, and assignments as directed by the supervisor within the position responsibilities Ability to work independently without direct supervision Ability to work well and share knowledge in a team environment Ability to work well with and to train end users and members of the support team Commitment to the education of students as a primary responsibility Computer proficiency including office productivity applications Considerable knowledge of computer equipment and related software for diagnostics Demonstrates citizenship, compassion, courage, discernment, excellence, honesty, hope, integrity, patience, perseverance, reliability, respect, responsibility, and trustworthiness Detail-oriented Energetic, creative, innovative, flexible Excellent cooperative, collaborative, and problem-solving skills Experience developing training materials that will be used for district-wide training Experience utilizing custom reporting tools to develop and deliver custom reports Interact efficiently with other departments and locations to resolve issues and document solutions Knowledge of and experience with a student information system Knowledge of and experience with system administration tasks on supported enterprise systems Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, listening, and verbal communication skills Willingness to participate in ongoing training as required Work Environment characteristics include: The noise level in the work environment may alternate among quiet, moderate, and loud. The incumbent is frequently required to interact in person and through communication methods with the students, public, and/or other staff. The incumbent is required to work normal school/work hours and/or days. The incumbent may be required to work extended school/work hours and/or days as directed. Physical Demands include: Sits, stands, walks, stoops, kneels, and crouches/squats while performing duties Has oral and auditory capacity enabling interaction interpersonally and/or through communication devices Uses eyes, hands, and finger coordination enabling the use of equipment and writing utensils Cognitive Functions include: The staff member may be required to analyze, communicate, compare, compile, compute, coordinate, copy, evaluate, instruct, negotiate, synthesize, and use interpersonal skills. Required Qualifications: Associate's degree or two or more years (48 semester hours or more of college with no degree) 1+ year of Experience supporting a learning management system Experience training and working with end users Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's (Baccalaureate) degree (e.g., B.A., A.B., B.S.)
