Alternative Licensing Coordinator
The Teacher Education Program at Brigham Young UniversityHawaii has an opening for the position of Alternative Licensing Coordinator. This position works approximately 19 hours per week. Job Summary The Alternative Licensing Program (ALP) Coordinator supervises and assists ALP teacher candidates to successfully achieve teacher licensing with the Hawaii Teachers Standards Board (HTSB). Summary of Essential Functions Serve as the program liaison between the BYUH Teacher Education Program, ALP candidates, and ALP school administration. (25%) Serve as the liaison for any questions or concerns that may arise. Maintain positive public relationships with school administration. Answer inquiries about the ALP program from potential candidates and school administration. Promote the ALP program with school administration. Supervise ALP Candidate progress. (50%) Schedule and conduct orientation meetings with ALP candidates, and ALP school administration. Conduct weekly seminar with ALP candidates. Review and evaluate all candidates' assignments. Complete required BYUH paperwork for practicum. Maintain Teacher Education Program records for practicum. Serve as the liaison for any questions or concerns that may arise regarding practicum. Facilitate the licensing process with the Teacher Education Program Teacher Licensing Coordinator. Follow up with the ALP candidate regarding HTSB licensing processes. Qualifications (required) Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field A minimum of 5 years experience working as a classroom teacher in a K-12 environment Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records Proficiency with database management and records systems Advanced communication skills, both written and verbal The ability to communicate effectively using online video conferencing software. The ability to effectively evaluate K-12 classroom teaching. Ability to interpret licensing regulations and requirements Some travel required (Oahu & outer islands) Qualifications (Preferred) The ability to manage, organize and synthesize data from multiple sources. Master's degree in Educational Leadership or similar area Previous experience as a school administrator. Previous experience supervising & evaluating K-12 classroom teachers. Previous experience and knowledge of the State of Hawaii Department of Education or similar state agency. Previous experience and knowledge of the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board licensing requirements or similar state agency.
