Position Summary: The Biller / Collector is responsible for organizing patient medical costs and sending invoices to collect payments from patients and their insurance providers. Key : Prepares and submits patient bills for insurance and / or private pay. Acts as a liaison between patients and their health insurance. Maintains a high level of professionalism and adheres to all debt collection rules and regulations. Collects patient insurance information. Researches and contacts clients / patients to inform them about overdue bills and accounts. Contacts insurance companies to determine the status of submitted claims. Investigates reasons for claim denial. Models Service Excellence Standards and Principles. Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Self-driven and proactive. Ability to work effectively on a team and collaborate with others. Knowledge of managed care, commercial and state agency billing requirements. Ability to make decisions and handle multiple responsibilities and strict deadline. Organizational and time management skills. Use of PC, Word, Excel, calculator, printer, copier, fax machine, and multi-line telephone system. Qualifications Education: High school education (diploma or GED). Licensure Certification: None Experience: Minimum of one year prior experience of hospital billing required. Experience with managed care and state agency billing preferred. Experience in per-diem's and calculation of adjustments preferred.
