Principal Mechanical Engineer

As Principal Mechanical Engineer you will own the Datacenter cooling system design along with thermal and fluid-handling designs that keep tens of thousands of GPUs cool and reliable. Your mission is to deliver reference-grade HVAC, liquid-cooling and containment solutions that scale rapidly, minimise PUE and fit into diverse global sites. Focus Manage all aspects of the mechanical engineering system for datacenters including air cooling, liquid cooling and infrastructure coordinating with all other discipline requirements. Create strategy for datacenter mechanical system design and deployment. Develop mechanical design standards for high-density air, rear-door heat-exchanger, cold-plate and immersion-cooling systems. Lead innovation for mechanical engineering systems for achieving high efficiency, better PUE and WUE. Develop and maintain the basis of design, master specification and master drawings. Facilitate developing project specific drawings and documentation based on the master design with local adaptation working with external design consultants. Develop and maintain a master sequence of operation and control strategy for the datacenters. Support and perform factory inspections, site quality inspections, testing and commissioning of mechanical systems. Conduct CFD modelling and capacity planning to validate airflow, pressure and temperature targets. Specify chillers, dry coolers, pumps, CRAH/CRAC units and redundant pipework topologies. Drive energy-efficiency initiatives; free-cooling, water-side economisers, waste-heat re-use. Produce mechanical bill-of-materials, sequence-of-operations and commissioning scripts. Interface with Electrical, Controls and Construction teams through 30/60/90% design reviews. Willing and able to travel domestic and international to support projects. 20% travel is expected for this role. About You B.S/B.E/B.A degree in Mechanical engineering discipline. 10 + years designing mechanical systems for datacenters and knowledge on AI / HPC data centres. Mastery of ASHRAE TC 9.9, liquid-cooling best practices and ISO 14644 cleanliness classes. Hands-on CFD (6Sigma, Ansys, Flotherm) and Revit/BIM workflow experience. Strong vendor network across chillers, pumps, manifold and coolant suppliers. PE/Chartered Engineer or equivalent credential preferred. Benefits Competitive total compensation package (salary + equity). Retirement or pension plan, in line with local norms. Health, dental, and vision insurance. Generous PTO policy, in line with local norms. Fluidstack is remote first, but has offices in key hubs. For all other locations, we provide access to WeWork.
