Responsible for all day-to-day operations of the Instructional Swim Program. Job Duties
Hold and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction. Instructor Trainer certification desirable. Direct supervision of swim lesson instructional staff. Plan and implement all instructional classes. Maintain accurate records and process all paperwork in regards to instructional classes. Coordinate registration for instructional classes with public and groups. Teach classes as needed, counsel participants and parents. Evaluate instructional programs. Assist Aquatics Manager and Staff as needed. Perform other related aquatic work as needed. Adherence to and enforcement of all Gainesville Parks & Recreation Agency personnel, facility, operational and patron policies, procedures, regulations and rules. Represent the Gainesville Parks & Recreation Agency and the Aquatic facilities in a positive, professional and consistent manner. Have a thorough understanding of the EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN for the assigned facility. Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications: Managerial or supervisory experience Current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification. Excellent customer service skills. Ability to remain calm and make appropriate decisions in emergency situations. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal. Ability to communicate in both one on one and group settings. Must be able to meet work schedule and in-service training attendance standards (May-August). Be at least 18 years old and possess at least 6 months of swim lesson experience. Education and Experience: At least 6 months of swim lesson experience. Licenses and Certifications: Hold and maintain current certification in American Red Cross Water Safety Instruction. Instructor certification desirable. Criteria for Success: Ability to put an emphasis on water safety and drowning prevention as the basis of swimming and water recreation. Ability to optimize swim skills so that participants can achieve success at regular intervals. Foreseeing hazards and taking steps to control them before participants step into the water. Ensuring that there are lifeguards on duty during swim lessons. Knowing how to use course materials and training equipment safely and effectively. Ability to inform participants and/or their parents about knowledge and skill evaluation procedures and course completing requirements. Ability to submit the required course documents according to Red Cross procedural guidelines within the specified time frame. Ability to enforce pool policies while providing a high level of customer service to participants. Ability to display a positive attitude for all participants and GPRA staff. Arrives prepared and on time for work and consistently demonstrates service excellence. Supplemental Information
Physical Requirements: Ability to successfully demonstrate all swimming strokes. Ability to understand and communicate with children. Ability to lift children in the Swim Lesson Program. Ability to walk, stand, reach, kneel, and lift throughout the working day and participate in activities that require physical dexterity. Ability to see clearly.
