The Superior Court of California, County of Lassen is now accepting applications for a full-time Court Mediator I/II. The Court Mediator will report to the Court Executive Officer and will perform a variety of functions independently under the general direction of the CEO. Responsibilities encompass both mediator and counselor roles, primarily in the area of family law. Incumbents may need to conduct investigations to be able to mediate disputes. Incumbents work independently under general direction with priorities determined by caseloads and court schedules. Pre-established policies, procedures, standards, and legislation are in place; however, the nature of dispute resolution involves achieving results in the absences of easily applied rules. The work requires analysis and evaluation of problems with available alternative solutions and may involve the occasional development of new techniques and procedures. A successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively with all levels throughout the organization and with the public, provide excellent customer service, and be technologically adept. A successful candidate should also demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment, establish effective client relationships, assess domestic violence and related family dynamics, communicate and interact in situations requiring instructing, persuading, consulting, counseling, and motivating clients. Additionally, incumbents should be able to understand and apply statutes, family case law, and rules of court, with the ability to analyze, evaluate, and summarize information into comprehensive written reports and recommendations to the court, sometimes extending to the ability to testify in court regarding these reports and recommendations. Minimum Qualifications: Possess a Master's degree in psychology, social work, marriage, family and child counseling substantially related to marriage and family interpersonal relationships. At least two years of experience in counseling or psychotherapy preferably in a setting related to areas of responsibility of the family conciliation court. Knowledge of the California court system and family case law procedures, community resources, adult psychopathology, family psychology, child development and abuse, and domestic violence issues. The Court may substitute additional experience for a portion of the education and vise versa for a Court Mediator I. Education and Experience of at least 3 years of experience as a court mediator or counselor with professional experience including conducting interviews and investigations is a requirement for the Court Mediator II classification. License Requirements: Possession of a valid California license in Clinical Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy or Clinical Psychology is desired, but not required for Court Mediator I. This license is a requirement for the Court Mediator II classification. Possession of a valid Class C California's driver's license.
