DEME
Hydraulic Engineer
As a hydraulic engineer your daily work falls within the activities of the HYDRO cell of the EDT-department (Engineering, Design & Technology) within the DEME Dredging and Reclamation activity line. This team looks into hydrodynamic aspects related to dredging, reclamation and coastal construction activities. The tasks for this position relate more particularly to issues like (dredge-related) resuspension of sediments, transportation, turbidity from dredge plumes and sedimentation, whether in the waters surrounding the works as well as in disposal facilities such as reclamation areas and settling ponds. These often environmentally sensitive aspects form a major part of your work and involve the use of specialized hydrodynamic and plume modelling software or require an in-depth review of external (modelling) reports, and often demand a project-based R&D mindset. Your Responsibilities
Generally, you are involved in assessing/calculating/modelling the impact of such issues for (mostly) project tenders in relation to client and/or regulator restrictions, while striving for an optimal - possibly innovative - design of the project and/or execution method of the works.
A good collaboration is respected with the environmental team within the EDT department and the respective desks for the worldwide areas of the Dredging and Reclamation activity line.
Alternatively, you can be involved in applied research to increase the knowledge base of the aspects relevant for your job by performing standard or customized lab tests on sediments and soil samples in the DEME research center.
Other hydraulic studies may be part of your tasks depending on the need within the HYDRO-team.
Your Profile
MSc in Engineering with a specialization in hydraulic, coastal or marine engineering.
0-5 years of relevant experience.
Experience with sediment dynamics and/or hydrodynamic modelling tools and other relevant engineering software such as Matlab, Python is a plus.
Fluent in verbal and written English.
Strong analytical skills with a critical view towards the tasks to be carried out.
You are creative, pro-active, well-structured and openminded and like teamwork.
Our Offer
An extensive mobility program for a healthy work-life balance.
A permanent training track which allows you to develop yourself personally and professionally.
A stimulating, innovative workplace with growth opportunities.
A people-oriented environment with an interactive health program and a focus on employee wellbeing.
