Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor - Internal Medicine

The University of Minnesota, College of Veterinary Medicine Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor position in Internal Medicine (contract appointment), 100%-time, faculty appointment. Clinical Service: The selected individual will be expected to support house officers in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of Small Animal Internal Medicine cases presented to the Veterinary Medical Center (VMC); provide excellent specialty-level care in internal medicine in collaboration with other specialists and emergency veterinarians; work closely with colleagues in the Veterinary Medical Center to provide a seamless transition between secondary and tertiary care; support clinical research trials, and provide opportunities for the training of student clinical externs and house officers. This role has the potential to lead the development of new clinical focus clinics or expansion of services and to positively represent the hospital in the professional community and to the general public. Professional and Graduate Education: The selected individual will be expected to participate in the didactic and clinical skills instruction of professional and/or graduate students. This individual will also be expected to advise and mentor Small Animal Internal Medicine residents. Research Duties vary depending on research effort, but may include development and management of a research program, grant writing, and mentoring of graduate students and residents. Clinical research opportunities are also available through the Clinical Investigation Center, as many potential funded research projects require internal medicine expertise. Service: The selected individual will support the service mission of the College through internal and external committee engagement in line with professional interests and in support of the greater interests of the College of Veterinary Medicine. Qualifications Requirements: Candidates must have a DVM or equivalent degree along with advanced training in veterinary small animal internal medicine. Preference will be given to individuals who are board-certified by the American College of Internal Medicine (ACVIM) or European College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ECVIM). However, applicants who have successfully completed an ACVIM or ECVIM internal medicine residency or that are currently in training are also encouraged to apply. Evidence of outstanding interpersonal skills and teamwork mentality, and the potential to develop collaborative research is highly desirable. The applicant must be eligible for the Minnesota state Veterinary specialty faculty licensure. About the Department The Veterinary Clinical Sciences Department advances veterinary medicine through clinical education and mentoring, specialized care of companion animals, and generating new knowledge through clinical research. Teaching Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members are responsible for a significant portion of the clinical training program for third- and fourth-year veterinary students, as well as small animal internship and residency programs. Faculty members also participate in the veterinary medicine and comparative and molecular biosciences graduate programs. Research Faculty and staff are actively involved in clinical and basic research, as well as in specialized programs. Research efforts are supported by the Clinical Investigation Center, which coordinates clinical trials. Service and Outreach Veterinary Clinical Sciences faculty members provide collaborative clinical services in the Veterinary Medical Center using cutting-edge equipment and offer consultations and continuing education programs for practicing veterinarians in the community.
