Anesthesia Technician

A. Manages the anesthesia work environment as appropriate for each patient; pediatric (>10), adolescent, adult and geriatric: Gathers needed supplies, instrumentation, and equipment in advance of the surgical schedule. Reports missing supplies or malfunctioning equipment to RN. Anticipates the anesthesia teams' needs and secures items ahead of time. Assists in the transfer of the patient at the conclusion of the case. Responsible for initial decontamination of reusable anesthesia items at the conclusion each case, prior to items leaving the operating room. Cleans the Anesthesia work area with appropriate disinfecting agents. Assist with OR cleaning to expedite turn over. Disposes of sharps and hazardous materials in appropriate receptacles. Bags and disposes of anesthesia waste according to policy. B. Anesthesia machine management The O2 sensor on the anesthesia machine will be calibrated. Complete daily terminal cleaning of all surfaces of the machines and equipment; will be wiped down with disinfectant. Monitor cords will be straightened out and recoiled. Vaporizers and O2 will be turned off. The anesthesia machine will be verified to be plugged into the red outlet. Hoses will be disconnected. Complete testing of the anesthesia machines each day. C. Medication Management Medications will be stocked to minimal par levels. Opened medication bottles will be checked for labeling with date, time, and initials. Medications will be checked for outdates at the end of each month. Disposes of unused non-controlled medications according to policy. Maintains knowledge of commonly used topical and local anesthetics, anesthesia induction and reversal agents, and vaporized anesthetics. D. Miscellaneous Organize storage areas for instruments and supplies. Re-orders supplies. Maintains clean storage facilities. Acts as resource for inquiries from anesthesia personnel regarding instrumentation and equipment. Demonstrates ability and skills necessary to operate a computer terminal. Maintains and role models strict adherence to Standard Precautions and Aseptic Technique. Requires basic knowledge of safety, departmental and ASC policies and emergency disaster procedures. Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, supervisors, physicians and staff members of other departments. Responsibility for ensuring effective communication between all perioperative team members and other center staff. Maintains confidential all observed or acquired information regarding all patients, their surgical procedure, and their perioperative experience. Education / Certification/ Experience: High school graduate or GED. Two years of surgical/procedural clinical experience including clinical support to anesthesia services preferred. Current LPN New York State licensure preferred. Holds current BLS certification Computer literacy - Microsoft Office, Excel and Word are required preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: Assumes the role of problem solver, follows up on all concerns brought to his/her attention and keeps the Administrator abreast of all unusual situations. Establishes both personal and department objectives. Demonstrates effective delegation skills. Promotes a positive work environment which enhances employee and patient satisfaction. Accepts other assignments as requested. Reflects maturity and confidence in communication skills Dependable adherence to work schedule. Able to work independently with minimal direct supervision. Able to prioritize multiple tasks. Strong organizational skills. Makes recommendation for improvement in the delivery of services and patient safety. Assists in collection of data for Quality Assurance. Work Hours: As a healthcare provider of the Associated Medical Professionals of NY, PLLC, work hours are not fixed and are structured to provide the best quality patient care possible. The normal business hours may be extended due to business needs the operations support manager will be required to work additional hours as needed. Working Conditions: Requires exposure to bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, therapeutic preparations, and other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Age of Patient/Customer: Age groups, from age 10, (a minimum of 80lbs, 55 inches) to geriatrics Physical Demands: Requires physical ability, manual dexterity, and stamina (i.e., to lift up to 50 pounds, to push/pull storage carts, frequent bending, reaching, standing and walking and occasional kneeling/squatting and the ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time) to perform the essential functions of the position) 1. Hepatitis immunization. 2. Assessment/screening for Pulmonary Tuberculosis (TB). 3. Proof of immunization against rubella and measles, COVID-19. 4. Annual health assessment which is sufficient in scope to ensure the employee is free from a health impairment which is a potential risk to patients or which may interfere with the performance of his/her duties. 5. Able to assist in the transfer of patients weighing up to 300 lbs. 6. Physically able to perform CPR. 7. Able to lift 25# (lbs/pounds).
