Vice President For The Cardiovascular Service Line
The Vice President for the Cardiovascular Service Line (VP-CVSL) is the lead administrative executive for the service line who reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer, and a matrix reporting relationship to the President of the Physician Organization of Tufts Medicine Health System. This role works in a leadership dyad with the CVSL Physician Executive and will be responsible for defining and advancing the strategic vision for cardiovascular services across Tufts Medicine. In close partnership with the Physician Executive of the CVSL, this system leadership role will also serve to align key activities and personnel across our network, including strengthening physician (employed and private) relations across the network. In addition to working very closely with entity executive leadership, this role will work with clinical and operational leaders across Tufts Medicine to ensure that Tufts Medicine is staying at the forefront of alternative payment models while maintaining value added relationships with industry and payor partners. In doing so, this leadership role will guide the development of service line disease teams, continuous improvement, equitable access to care, quality, efficient clinical care delivery, and world class patient and provider experience. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Master's degree required in business or healthcare related field. Typical aspects of the job require the knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through a Master of Healthcare Administration or Business Administration or closely related field. 2. Ten (10) years of progressive leadership experience in healthcare administration, preferably in an academic health system, with at least 3 years in a senior management capacity. Preferred Qualifications: 1. Specific experience with cardiovascular or medicine. Leads in the executive and governance leadership of strengthening the cancer steering committee for alignment and execution service line strategic plans across Tufts Medicine. 2. Oversees the multi-year strategic and programmatic plan development and successful financial performance of the service line. 3. Collaborates with physician and support staff leadership across the system in developing and advancing the service line disease team model of patient care experience and research excellence. 4. Facilitates and directs, as needed, efficient business operations at all practice locations and the smooth integration with hospital business operations, to effectively support the achievement of organizational goals. 5. Maintains an updated sense of the market dynamics for cancer local and regionally to help position competitively viable service line programs, expansion opportunities, and business development or partnerships etc. 6. Accountable to the strategic imperatives for Tufts Medicine and ensure its appropriate alignment for goal setting and performance across the service line. 7. Works with the Physician Executive
CVSL, defines and maintains quality and safety metrics in cardiovascular care across the system. 8. Leads in developing an attractive and collaborative work environment for all in the SL and broadly across Tufts Medicine, for a psychologically safe and supportive way that ensures optimal performance on culture and business goals. Physical Requirements: 1. Standard Office Environment within hospital facilities, with ability to travel to, and work from, multiple sites within Greater Boston area on a regular basis. Skills & Abilities: 1. Work requires exceptional analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in depth, cross functional experienced based knowledge. 2. Work requires the ability to build trusted relationships with key stakeholders across organizations, accomplishing work in a collaborative, transparent manner. 3. Work requires strong communication and change management skills in order to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions, and well-developed writing skills. Must seek out multiple perspectives and actively listen and respond to divergent points of view. 4. Work requires the identification and resolution of important, ethical, strategic and operating problems that require innovative solutions based on extensive knowledge of the health care industry. 5. Work requires the ability to effectively lead employees within assigned areas of responsibility and to persuade and negotiate with peer-level department heads and/or with external agencies/facilities on issues and programs that impact assigned department as well as other departments/divisions. 6. Work requires the ability to lead transformational change while fostering an inclusive environment for team members. Job Profile Summary: This role focuses on providing medical and clinical support services to patients. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Clinical Leadership duties: Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors. Activities include long-term strategic planning; determining the policies of the organization; allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision. An executive role that provides strategic vision and/or tactical/strategic direction across multiple teams with the majority of time spent on overseeing area of responsibility and directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. An entity sub-function head role accountable to establish and implement strategies that have short to mid-term (1-3 years) impact on business results in alignment with function objectives. Leads multiple teams of directors/senior managers and managers and develops short to mid-term (1-3 years) plans for optimizing the function or sub-function and the talent required to execute strategies in job area.
