GIS Designer
Location: Overland Park, KS Job Type: Contract to Hire Industry: Telecommunications Company Overview: Our client, a leader in the telecommunications field, is seeking a GIS Designer to join their team. The primary focus of this role is to design detailed conduit layouts within a fiber network. General Duties / Key Responsibilities:
Utilize QGIS, ArcGIS, and other GIS tools to create FTTX designs. Learn new tools and methods to assist with design and collaborate across multiple markets with various customers. Analyze network demand point data to create the most effective design. Review permitting prints during the permitting stage and provide feedback related to design to minimize costly or difficult changes. Provide exemplary project communication and adhere to project/jurisdictional requirements. Maintain a robust quality control/assurance process, including validation checks and QA/QC of fiber designs. Design Fiber to the Home, backhaul/transport fiber routes, MDU, and distribution/feeder design using provided design software and methods. Understand easements, right-of-ways, aerial plant, and buried plant to aid in the design process. Ability to read and understand maps, plats, as-builts, construction drawings, and utility records is highly desirable. Perform any/all duties related to conduit designs within a fiber network that may be required for the project(s). Required Job Qualifications:
1-2 years of related experience. 1 or more years of experience with GIS-based systems. Experience with QGIS, ArcMap, ArcPro, ArcGIS, AGOL, OSPInsight, IQGEO, 3GIS, or other GIS-based systems is preferred, with a preference for direct QGIS experience.
