Insurance Verification Specialist

Bartlett Regional Hospital is searching for an Insurance Verification Specialist to join our Surgery and Specialty Clinic team! Under direct/general supervision, the Insurance Verification Specialist is responsible for verifying all insurance for all types of patients for which a financial chart is created. This includes communication with insurance via phone/website, follow-up with insurance companies, providing certain types of information and forms as requested to insurance companies and communicating/coordinating requirements and criteria regarding a patient's insurance to the billing & clinical departments. The Insurance Verification Specialist receives, verifies and tracks insurance authorizations for in-office care. This position is also responsible for the other duties of the department which include direct communication with patients & providers, answering phones, scheduling patients, check in/out patients, collection of over the counter payments, processing records requests, preparing charts for clinic visits, managing incoming referrals, managing incoming faxes and assisting with Medicaid travel arrangements and pre-authorizations as needed. Support management and administration and help facilitate the day-to-day flow of the surgery/specialty practice. The Insurance Verification Specialist participates in other hospital committees and teams as appropriate. Participates in professional and/or community organizations. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications for the Job: Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Completes annual educational requirements. Experience: Two years clerical experience in a medical office/hospital setting. Experience with insurance verification and prior authorization preferred. Substitution: Postsecondary education can be substituted for the required experience on a year for year basis. Internal Hires: Pay rate will be determined based on applicable personnel rule or union contract terms. External Hires: This position starts at $23.52 per hour. Step placement and rate of pay will be determined based upon relevant experience. Practice Notices: All new employees are required to produce negative drug screen prior to start of employment.
