The Medical Receptionist at Gastrointestinal Care of Long Island - Dr. Herbert Pasternak (GCLI) serves as the vital first point of contact for patients seeking specialized gastrointestinal healthcare services. This role is essential in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience by managing patient check-ins, scheduling appointments, and handling communications efficiently. The receptionist will coordinate with medical staff to facilitate timely patient flow and maintain accurate records, contributing directly to the quality of care provided. Attention to detail and professionalism are critical, as the role involves managing sensitive patient information in compliance with healthcare regulations. Ultimately, the Medical Receptionist supports the clinical team by fostering a positive environment that enhances patient satisfaction and operational efficiency. Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a medical receptionist or front desk role within a healthcare setting. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and basic computer proficiency. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals. Knowledge of medical terminology related to gastrointestinal care is preferred but not mandatory. Preferred Qualifications

Certification as a Medical Administrative Assistant or equivalent credential. Experience working in a gastroenterology or specialty medical practice. Proficiency in insurance verification and billing procedures. Bilingual abilities, particularly in Spanish or other commonly spoken languages in the Long Island area. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Responsibilities

Greet patients and visitors warmly, providing assistance and directing them appropriately within the clinic. Manage appointment scheduling, cancellations, and rescheduling using electronic health record (EHR) systems to optimize provider availability. Answer incoming phone calls promptly, addressing patient inquiries, providing information, and routing calls to the appropriate staff members. Verify patient insurance information and assist with the collection of co-pays or outstanding balances at the time of service. Maintain accurate and confidential patient records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA and clinic policies. Coordinate with clinical staff to prepare patients for their appointments and communicate any special instructions or updates. Handle administrative tasks such as filing, faxing, and managing correspondence related to patient care and clinic operations. Skills

The Medical Receptionist utilizes strong organizational skills daily to manage appointment schedules and patient flow, ensuring minimal wait times and efficient clinic operations. Effective communication skills are essential for interacting with patients, providers, and insurance companies, facilitating clear and compassionate exchanges.
