Administrative Assistant
Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western is accepting applications for a full-time Administrative Assistant in the President's Office. As the primary on-campus presidential support position, provides operational and administrative support to the President in collaboration with the President's executive assistant. Serves as the initial point of contact for faculty, staff, students, and the community when entering Fishburn Hall. Supports college administrators in interactions with the president, as part of the executive team, and with departmental needs, as requested. This position will partner with the executive assistant in support for the Executive Team, Local Advisory Board, Educational Foundation Board, various college committees, community committees and boards, and other groups associated with the President. Discretion, professional conduct and communication, and appropriate confidentiality is required at all times. Minimum Qualifications: Excellent organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills with the ability to be flexible with shifting priorities and needs. Evolving knowledge of college, VCCS, and state programs, policies, and operations. Professional oral and written communication skills with the ability to successfully interact with diverse members of the college, state, and general public. Advanced knowledge and skill in using a computer with word processing, database student systems, spreadsheets, office communications, and the Internet. Demonstrated ability to manage office activities and administrative work with minimal supervision. Ability to collect, organize, and effectively report both quantitative and qualitative data. Demonstrated ability to interpret, apply and explain policies and procedures. Ability to handle sensitive issues and information with the highest level of respect and confidentiality. Demonstrated experience supporting executive level leadership in both operational and administrative capacities. Demonstrated competency in office management, including use of technology, and customer service for both internal and external populations. Experience working with a wide range of constituents, answering questions, navigating challenges, and meeting the needs of diverse internal and external customers. Additional Considerations: Experience working in a college environment, preferred. Experience providing administrative support to multiple leaders at the same time, preferred.
