Public Safety Switchboard/Dispatcher

The Public Safety Dispatcher answers Public Safety emergency and non-emergency calls, and College switchboard calls. The Public Safety Dispatcher reports to the Operations Manager. Responsibilities: Responsible to the Operations Manager to perform dispatch and switchboard duties during the day. Insures that all calls are answered and Public Safety radio traffic is monitored. Duties: Answer Public Safety phone calls, monitoring emergency lines and other office lines. Dispatch Public Safety Officers to a variety of calls for service, acting as a liaison between officers and the caller. Enter calls into ARMS (Automated Records Management System) and monitor officer activity. Answer College switchboard calls, assisting with directory information and transferring calls. Answers and monitors all Switchboard calls, assists callers with directory information, and transfer calls as necessary. Provides general campus information representing the college in a professional and friendly manner. Answers Public Safety phone calls, monitoring emergency lines and other office lines. Instructs callers with proper responses to various emergency situations. Provides a calm, professional and reassuring voice for potentially upset callers. Gathers relevant information in order to efficiently dispatch officers. Takes messages for Public Safety personnel. Dispatches Public Safety Officers to a variety of calls for service. Operates a base radio system communicating information to officers. Acts as a liaison between officers and the caller. Records all calls dispatched into ARMS (Automated Records Management System). Monitors officer activity and periodically checks officer status. Familiar with Proximity access control system including Enabling/Disabling doors. Create and replace Programs electronic keyID cards for students, employees and visitors.faculty and staff. Monitor doors on proximity access control system. Receive Work Orders Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications: One year related experience or training. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to articulate and convey information in a clear concise manner. Computer literate within basic tools including Microsoft Office. Ability to understand and speak the English language Ability to learn and apply new information and instruction quickly and accurately. Physical Requirements: The employee is regularly required to sit, stand and move about the room to work at various machines for programming cards. The employee must be able to speak clearly on the telephone and radio as well as hear clearly to receive calls. The employee must be able to see various computer screen styles as well as look up reference material in binders and flipcharts on the desks. FLSA Status
