Career And Technical Education Readiness Teacher (Grades 9-10)

Herkimer BOCES is seeking a dedicated and experienced educator to join our Career and Technical Education (CTE) Readiness Program designed for 9th and 10th grade students. This is a unique opportunity for a dynamic teacherideally with a background in special education and/or co-teachingto inspire and prepare students for rigorous CTE pathways through career awareness, assessment, and foundational technical preparation. The ideal candidate will possess strong instructional skills, a commitment to student-centered learning, and a passion for helping students identify and pursue meaningful career goals. Key Responsibilities: Deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction in a co-teaching model that supports diverse learners, including students with IEPs and 504 plans. Prepare students for success on the NYS Algebra I and ELA Regents exams. Integrate academic and technical content to develop students' foundational skills for high-level CTE coursework in 11th and 12th grade. Collaboratively design and implement a project-based curriculum that introduces students to various career clusters and technical competencies. Align instructional units with New York State Learning Standards and CTE frameworks to ensure continuity into 11th grade CTE programs. Utilize career assessments and exploration tools to guide student decision-making and interest-based planning. Foster a classroom environment that promotes student curiosity, self-discovery, and a growth mindset around career development. Monitor student progress and provide academic and behavioral support to ensure individual success and readiness for upper-level CTE programs. Collaborate with special education teachers, counselors, and CTE staff to support students' individual learning plans. Serve as a key team member in the design and evolution of this new two-year program. Partner with CTE instructors, school counselors, administrators, and parents to create clear academic and career pathways for students. Participate in professional development related to CTE, instructional strategies, and co-teaching best practices. Qualifications: Valid NYS Teaching Certification in one or more of the following areas: Career and Technical Education (CTE) Students with Disabilities Content-area certification (Math, ELA, or related subject) Experience working in a co-teaching or inclusive classroom setting is preferred. Familiarity with NYS Learning Standards, Regents exam requirements, and/or CTE program models. Strong interest in developing career awareness and readiness skills among high school students. Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with curriculum design and project-based learning. Understanding of career assessments and workforce readiness tools. Demonstrated ability to motivate and connect with at-risk or disengaged learners.
