Financial Management & Reporting (40%) Oversee all accounting operations and ensure the integrity of financial records. Direct the monthly and annual close process, producing financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Manage general ledger, revenue recognition, accounts payable/receivable, payroll accounting, and tax compliance. Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and support clean audits. Prepare timely management reports and variance analyses explaining financial results. Process Improvement & Operations (20%) Evaluate and optimize all finance processes, with an initial focus on accelerating the monthly close and enhancing commission reconciliation accuracy. Identify opportunities to automate manual tasks (e.g., account reconciliations, data entry). Standardize workflows and documentation
create/update SOPs for key activities (close checklists, commission processing, expense approvals). Ensure back-office processes (billing, collections, payables) are efficient, well-documented, and scalable for growth. Partner with IT as needed to implement new systems or upgrades (e.g., evaluate if a new commission management system is warranted). Drive cost savings and efficiencies without sacrificing accuracy. Financial Planning and Business Partnership (20%) Serve as partner to EVP of Strategy and the leadership team, translating financial results into actionable recommendations for business improvements. Coordinate the annual budget process, financial forecasts, and long-term plans. Provide insightful analysis of financial trends, segment unit economics, and profitability drivers to support decision making. Participate in strategic projects (such as evaluating new business lines, geographic expansion, or M&A opportunities) by supplying financial due diligence. Advise on optimizing revenue streams and expense management; help drive initiatives to improve operating leverage. Act as a finance liaison to Sales, Marketing, Customer Experience, and Technology, Carrier Relations, and Human Resources
translating financial impacts into operational language. Leadership & People Development (20%) Lead and mentor a finance team that includes accounting, FP&A, and commission operations staff. Provide clear direction, set goals, and foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Develop team members through coaching, training, and performance evaluations. Coordinate work across on-site and virtual team members, ensuring effective communication and quality control. Qualifications
Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Experience: 8+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles, including at least 3 years in a supervisory/managerial capacity. Strong background in corporate accounting (month-end close, financial reporting) is required. Experience in a mid-sized company environment (e.g., $20M$100M revenue range) or in a division of a larger company is preferred. Technical Skills: Deep knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards; able to prepare and review financial statements. Hands-on experience with general ledger systems and financial reporting tools. Advanced Excel skills for financial analysis and modeling. Exposure to budgeting/forecasting processes and use of FP&A tools or software. Must be comfortable working with transactional data and performing detailed reconciliations when needed. Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and develop a team, set priorities, and drive results. Excellent communication skills, with an ability to explain financial concepts to non-financial colleagues clearly and to present to executive leadership. Experience managing or coordinating work with outsourced or off-shore teams is a plus (the role involves overseeing remote support staff). Process Orientation: A track record of process improvement in finance
for example, implemented a new system or improved a workflow that resulted in faster close or increased accuracy. Ability to design and enforce internal controls and maintain high ethical standards. Exceptionally organized, with strong project management skills to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Preferred Certification: CPA strongly preferred. Active license or significant public accounting/audit experience. Industry: Experience in the insurance industry of financial services is highly advantageous. Understanding of insurance agency operations, commission structures. Systems: proficiency with ERP accounting software (NetSuite) and financial planning software (Adaptive Insights) or business intelligence tools is a plus.
