The Manager of Post-Default Litigation Support will be fully engaged with the day-to-day support and execution of the company's litigation strategy. Support functions will include, but not be limited to, supporting our third-party legal network with review and execution of affidavits and loan document validation, first-line testing and monitoring support, court cost administration, and representing Sallie Mae as a witness and custodian of records when court testimony is required. The incumbent must be willing to travel at a high frequency and, at times, with short notice. Additionally, the position requires constant contact and ongoing training from our internal counterparts in Education, Originations, Legal, Compliance, Finance, Collections, and IT to ensure the incumbent is well versed in all aspects of the education loan lifecycle. Custodian of Record and Court Witness

Represent Sallie Mae as a witness in court for litigation matters (including lawsuits filed by Sallie Mae as well as periodic witness requests from third-party debt buyers). Demonstrate a strong understanding of the student loan lifecycle and related processes. Deliver clear articulations and respond to questions posed by judges and attorneys in court proceedings. Familiarity of the student loan lifecycle is anticipated to include, but is not limited to, the origination and application process, disbursement of funds, repayment process (including payment allocation and other aspects of loan servicing), loss mitigation programs and loss recovery, as necessary. Ability to comprehend and communicate complex processes, including loan ownership, chain-of-title, and transfers of ownership (such as on-balance sheet and off-balance sheet loan sales, Asset Backed Security transactions, and charged-off loan sales transactions, as necessary. Be willing to travel as needed and, at times, with short notice. Litigation Operational and Compliance Support

Review, validate, and execute affidavits for impending suit filings. Support third-party legal networks with media and research requests. Ensure proper documentation is accurate and included with each lawsuit package. Ensure all compliance requirements are completed for each affidavit or lawsuit package (such as Servicemembers Civil Relief Act ("SCRA") status verification in compliance with the Military Lending Act ("MLA"). Validate invoices for court costs/filing fees and any reasonable and supportable litigations expenses. Support the reimbursement approval process and track overall disbursements. Provide data and support to the Post-Default first line of defense team when executing its testing and monitoring protocols. Participate in internal audits and internal risk assessments, as necessary. What You Have

Minimum education, skills and experience required. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience 5 years progressive experience working in a financial service and/or private education loan environment. 2+ years vendor related experience, or proven specialized experience in the following functions: internal partnership development and management, external business partnerships, process evaluation, and billing and invoicing Strong understanding and/or ability to become a subject matter expert of student loan life-cycle and process, such as the application process, originations, disbursement, repayment process, loss mitigation programs and loss recovery. Strong understanding of collections and recovery, as well as litigation strategies. Strong analytical skills with the demonstrated ability to identify issues and suggest appropriate resolutions Possess excellent verbal and written communications skills in order to communicate with all levels of management, third-party vendors, lawyers, and court appearances. Ability to effectively prioritize multiple priorities in a fast paced, time sensitive environment Attention to details and strong follow up skills Proficient in Microsoft suite of applications Ability to travel at a high frequency and, at times, with short notice. Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail Preferred education, skills, and experience. SQL or other data mining experience, with ability to interpret data Notary license or ability to obtain a Notary license. Familiarity and prior experience with the litigation process, providing witness testimony, and participation in court proceedings. The Americans with Disabilities Act
