McLean School, a K-12 co-educational independent school in Potomac, Maryland, seeks applicants for a coach for the grades 5-8 coed cross country team students for the fall 2025 season, which runs from the end of September through the end of October. McLean School has for 70 years been helping bright students realize their full potential by providing a comprehensive college preparatory program that emphasizes small classes and differentiated instruction. Through our abilities model, we embrace both traditional learners and ones with mild to moderate learning challenges. We recognize and teach individual strengths, responding to areas of challenge, but never defining students by them. The coach for grades 5-8 coed cross country is responsible for team oversight, acting as a positive role model, and supporting the mission and core values of McLean School. This position reports directly to the director of athletics, coaching, and mentoring. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have experience as a youth, high school, and/or club-level coach, experience with providing differentiated instruction to athletes of all levels, effective written and oral communication skills, knowledgeable of the fundamentals and techniques of competitive cross country, an ability to build relationships and work well with others, a sharp perspective on the role of athletics in the educational experience.
