This is a part-time position, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm (Mondays and Wednesdays), located at 685 White Plains Road, Eastchester NY. The EMG/NCV Technician will perform monitoring studies, including EEG monitoring, evoked potential monitoring, intraoperative studies and/or EMG monitoring during surgical and interventional radiology procedures. Performs complex EEG, evoked potential studies, nerve conduction studies, and/or Epilepsy Monitoring Unit studies. Serves as a resource to physicians and other technologists. May perform polysomnographic and ambulatory studies. As assigned may conduct any or all of the following: electroencephalograph (EEG) evoked potential (EP), electromyography (NCS/EMG), intraoperative monitoring studies (IOM), or EMU procedures on patients in accordance with established procedures. May perform polysomnographic and ambulatory studies. As assigned may conduct long-term monitoring of EEG signals with depth and cortical electrodes. May conduct intraoperative monitoring studies including EEG monitoring during vascular surgery, evoked potential monitoring during spinal surgery, skull base surgery, intracranial surgery, radiographic procedures, EP studies for cortical mapping and brainstem monitoring, or electromyography monitoring during surgery potentially affecting cranial nerves or spinal nerves. May conduct transcranial Doppler studies. Informs patients of the testing procedures and responds appropriately to their questions and concerns. Prepares patient and equipment for recording before each procedure. Maintains equipment in working order: make minor repairs and adjustments, troubleshoot major equipment problems. Arranges for replacement or repair when necessary. Monitors tracings during recordings. Makes appropriate adjustments to ensure adequate tracings. Annotates records with appropriate clinical observations of the patient. Informs physician of any problems/emergencies during testing Archives digital studies and maintains the archive database. Arranges for appropriate archiving of paper-based studies when necessary. Maintains appropriate documentation for patient records and laboratory files. Complies statistical data and reports on procedures performed. Lists appropriate charge of each service for proper billing. Works with hospital departments such as Information Services and Biomedical Engineering as well as outside vendors to facilitate smooth service delivery. Maintains adequate stock of supplies. Maintains equipment in proper working order, troubleshoots major equipment problems, and arranges for replacement or repair with appropriate vendor, in-house Biomedical Engineering, or third party. Serves as a technical resource to staff for training, troubleshooting, and technical matters. Participates in training of house staff and appropriate hospital staff. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. Requirements
High School Diploma or GED Advanced training or neuroscience coursework Licensure/Certifications Certified EMG/NCV Technician Work Experience One year of EEG, Evoked Potential, EMG or Transcranial Doppler experienced and demonstrated ability to meet competencies of the department Ability to work independently Must possess an advanced knowledge of normal and abnormal EEG, evoked potential, and/or EMG patterns and/or a working knowledge of abnormalities on diagnostic EEG studies, evoked potential studies, nerve conduction studies, and/or epilepsy monitoring studies or advanced knowledge of Transcranial Doppler's.
