Certified Emergency Medic works in a full service Emergency Department (ED), treating all ages. This role assumes the responsibility for assisting with the implementation of supportive nursing care under the direction of the Registered Nurse and Medical Director. The Certified Emergency Medic provides patient care within a defined scope of practice that includes patient care/observation, specified treatments and procedures; provision of environmental and personal safety, and effective communication. The Certified Emergency Medic will also be responsible to collect pertinent data within their certification of responsibilities and report these clinical, psychosocial, etc., findings to the RN or ED Medical Director and charts appropriately. Works in collaboration with RNs and Medical Providers to provide patient care to adult and trauma patients utilizing advanced skills and judgment. Certified Emergency Medic will be responsible for ECG interpretation, IV therapy, airway patency, and initiation of approved protocol orders and guidelines of care for patients in the ED setting. Demonstrates service excellence at all times. Other duties as assigned. Duties: Adheres to safety guidelines for patients and staff as evidenced by compliance with policies. May discharge patients as requested by the RN after ensuring all orders, treatments, and documentation have been completed. Reports equipment malfunctions, environmental and housekeeping issues to the appropriate department in a timely manner. Complies with established policies and guidelines for Midas risk entry completion and reporting of events, employee exposures, and/or injuries. Manages routine problems, prioritizes activities, and utilizes effective time management skills. Addresses resolution of interpersonal conflicts: person to person first, then use of managerial resources. Participates in efforts to minimize cost and waste. Communicates effectively with patients, physicians, and co-workers. Qualifications Requirements: Education requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent. Completion of an approved EMT-P program Work experience requirements: Preferred - One year experience in a hospital setting as a Paramedic or two years experience as a Paramedic in a pre-hospital setting. Required licenses/certifications/courses: Completion of an approved EMT-P program and current certification as a Paramedic in the State of South Carolina. BLS required on hire; ACLS, PALS, and CPI within 90 days and PHTLS within 6 months of hire. Paramedic Certification by NREMT registry is required. Required skills, knowledge and abilities: Completion of a basic arrhythmia or monitor tech class within 90 days or successfully passes dysrhythmia testing with 100%.
